    Default Queen & Country question

I've just recently gotten into Queen & Country, and I've learned that there's a couple novels that tie into the series. According to Wikipedia, the last arc is directly from the second book.

How crucial is it for me to read the novels if I want to keep up with Q&C continuity? Do the comics work on their own, or is it best if I just read the novels? And if I do get the books, at what point in the comic run should I read the first novel?

Thanks for any help you guys can give!

If I remember correctly, the order is:

    Queen & Country 1-28

    Queen & Country: A Gentleman's Game novel

    Queen & Country #29-32

Queen & Country: Private Wars novel

Considering I've read the entire comics series, but none of the novels, I'd say it isn't at all crucial to read the novels.

They standalone decently enough, Private Wars was my favorite book the year it came out.

But they really enhance the comics as well.

I wouldnt say they are stand alone enough cause i tried to read the issue after the novel. I couldnt understand why they were where they were and what they were doing.

Maybe im a fanboy that must understand everything about this comic that i like so much.

Its like my favorit spy novesl, its does this kind of story very well. Very rare in comics. Usuall the spooks in comics are superhero like.

Since i havent catched up yet i dont know where the comic is issues and realese wise. I hope Rucka doesnt kill off this comic too soon or with delays.

You also need to read the first Declassified series before you get to Volume 5, Storm Front.

Gentleman's game is pretty essential to understanding the last story arc, and I presume Private Wars will be important whenever the new series starts up.

Everyone else has got the chronology right (and now I'm going to have to go and get that "Declassified Volume 1.) However, I'd only caution that if you read the novel, A Gentleman's Game, do so BEFORE Private Wars. It's better for the payoffs. And yes, major events occur in Private Wars that sets up the status quo for things to come--a third novel and the relaunch of the comic series in 2009. And I'm sure we'll be given enough information to satisfy those of us following since the beginning and bring in new fans.

Sorry for bringing this thread back from the dead, but Q&C Definitive vol. 2 recently came out, and I notice that they jump straight from Operation: Blackwall to Operation: Stormfront. From the solicits, it looks like the next edition will finish off the story so far, while vol. 4 (due out in December, though will probably get delayed until the new year) has the Declassifieds. For those of us wanting to read stories in linear sequence, that doesn't help much.

    That pisses me off mightily.
