Gunn was sired during the last battle but not by Spike or Angel but by some vamps who drug him off. Nina is pissed off at Angel, not sure why. Gun thinks he can be more human than angel as a vamp without a soul. he says angel wasn't much of a man before he became a vamp so him getting his soul back doesn't make much difference.
Angel and Conner are on good terms but angel is worried the lord whos son he killed will take his revenge out on conner. gwen shows angel and connor what some vamps did to a group of girls and angel thinks he knows who it was, he travels to beverly hills and incounters spike and illyria. before leaving angel sends conner to hq to grab the dragon. he tells conner to call him by name and he'll be in good with the beast. angel whispers the name but we don't hear it. we only know its weird.
sorry for the lame review im about to go to bed and wanted to pound it out. so now we know how gunn was sired and why angel and illyria are fighting in issue three. the big mystery is what did angel name the dragon.

This series is starting out in a place where I don't want these characters to be. Which I guess is kinda the point. It makes me feel all weird inside. Like in season seven of Buffy, when everyone is siding with Faith and trying to kick Buffy to the wayside. Or near the end of Angel season five, when Angel turns jackass on all of his friends (though it's all part of the plan), or when Angel hates Wesley after the latter gives baby Connor to that one guy (forget his name) who takes him to the hell dimension and raises him.
I hope everything works out well...but I don't really see how it can.
In any event, I'm enjoying the series.ZombieHavoc don't shiv.

It's fun and I'm enjoying it.
Now I missed the first issue, so maybe someone can explain something to me. How does an entire city get sent to Hell? I mean, with the crucifixes and basic morality employed as plot devices throughout this license, it’s safe to say that it is relatively Judeo-Christian in nature. One of the basic tenets of these belief systems is that people get to choose which side of the fence they are on, so the idea that a major metropolis and its population are transported against their will to Hell seems a bit of a stretch. Did I miss something?

I knew it wasn't Angel or Spike. I'm totally an Angel fan-boy. Buffy can go kill herself...again. Man, I really wish that Angelus had kill Xander along time ago.

I'm curious, if this is meant to be 'official' and Buffy Season 8 is meant to be 'official' then shouldn't there be a Slayer cell hanging around LA amongst everything else?

Well, the Watcher Council was destoryed during the First thing. And with no Watchers there's no slayer. Buffy is the only slayer, since her watcher feel like she no longer need a watcher. The potential slayers are weak and vulnerable, that's why they shown up at Buffy's house. They got no one to tech them how to fight evil. Buffy just used them to stop the First.
