really? because i got the impression that they'd all go right back to their lives. i had to laugh at how ugly the message was. Thomas Jane's character was made the punch line of a very bad joke because he lacked faith. the faithful were rewarded by being saved by the military. and, if they are anything like the small town folk in other King movies, they will chalk their actions up to God's will. God put them in a position where they had to sacrifice people. their sacrifice led to them being saved. and Jane's character didn't wait too long to decide for everyone's fate. could you imagine being the last person to get shot in the head by this madman? did his son get a chance to voice an opinion? i can't imagine any sane person not taking their chances in the mist.

p.s. he could have suffocated his son and saved that last bullet for himself.

I heard the horror film, "The Devil Inside", was ruined because of its ending.

It had a website link following it that urged audiences to visit a website to learn more about the stuff that happened in the film. it's a marketing twist that makes audiences feel taken advantage of.

While not really an ending I've always felt the reveal of the monster from Cloverfield was underwhelming

Is that the movie with the poster of the woman with the cross cut into the inside of her lip? I heard that whole movie was horrible, not just the ending.

We don't see the people from the store get saved, we only know the woman from the start that no one in the store would help was.

29 pages and nobody's mentioned Night of the Demon (1957) yet with its hastily added monster that destroyed the premise of the film?

And like many bad endings, executive meddling was in full force.
'The marquis. Well, you know, to be honest, he seems a little bit dodgy to me.'
'Mm,' she agreed. 'He's a little bit dodgy in the same way that rats are a little bit covered in fur."

It looked like they've stolen a design from MIB IMO

It probably has something to do with the ending to the Mist book being a message of hope, while the ending to the Mist movie...not. Very not.

I know this is an old post, but I actually liked it. I thought it took balls to do that, not only does he kill his kid, but it turns out to be pointless. I think that adds a lot to it, not all endings need to be cheery. It really fits the Stephen King mood for me too, the horror will *never* be over for David now, he'll carry it with him for the rest of his life..whereas if he was killed it would of been a release at least. In a lot of ways being left to deal with that is a lot worse then just being killed by some creatures in the mist. Sometimes in King's books the characters die in horrible ways, but other times they are simply left to dwell on the horror they have seen.
I loved the ending to The Mist because of how beautifully horrific it was. Very few movies have the balls to do what this movie did. Afterwards Stephen King came out and said it had the ending he wished he'd wrote.

*I think I may have said this already in this thread. Its an old thread and I didn't wade through it but I know I've said something to this effect before and it could have been here.
Price your book at $3.99 and I'll trade wait. Make me wait too long for the trade PAPERback and I'll say screw it. I'm looking at you Marvel and Spider Island.

This may not be the most loved movie and it's not that great but I always had a soft spot for The Final Conflict(aka The Omen IV). For a fourth movie that movie threw me on my butt because of the great cinematography and the cool performance of Sam Neill as Damian/Lucifer. It's a solid B Genre movie. And the movie's internal logic goes relatively well but the magor plot is this, Sam aka Devi's son wants to achieve World domination and he does it with small baby steps with charm and manipulation....well except for that "going after every baby born at a certain date, sending his hordes to kill them all because one of them will be the return of Jesus and be a magor obstacles to our friend Sam" thing. I will say this mission is pretty much what the whole movie is about, killing the babies and priests who try to stop Damian. At the same time these priests have found sacred daggers that will kill Damian. The end of the movie is this:

Damian's agents manage to kill the baby! The priests fail to kill Damian. So the dude wins, right? But then a light come up from above and it's God and it's basically "naughty Lucifer, you are defeated!". The End. So the whole film was pointless. God was probably watching the whole thing laughing at the pointless things happening below him, like watching a bad Sandler movie and eating popcorn made of clouds.

BTW, it was funny listening to the director's commentary and hearing him go silent right around when they kill the baby. It's like he disappears completly from the track and reappear at the end when the light appears and he just talks about the music. lol
Kurt Busiek Says:"Best Avengers Run, Steve Englehart's run in the 1970s. With Roy Thomas's run that preceded it close behind, and the Conway/Shooter/Michelinie run that followed close behind that

see, this is basicaly the same ending as "The Stand" where I think it make Perfect sense for stories which relies heavily on beliefs in God and The Devil. Unless there's a stated understanding that God is gone, he's likely to intervene when s*/% get really really rough.

"Omen III: The Final Conflict" had Sam Neill as Damien. "Omen IV: The Awakening" didn't have him in it.
