Speaking of Joan Jett, I've always found it odd that the Runaways were not a factory-produced group (As in they weren't formed by a record label), yet Jett, Lita Ford, and Cherie Currie weren't bad looking at all.

I would've expected members from an all-girl group from the 70's to look average at best.

I don't think he meant that Corinna. Joan Baez is pretty attractive. She diddled with Bob Dylan for quite sometime. I even read an article in Vanity Fair where it said that she revolutionized sexuality. By downplaying it and being barefoot with no makeup she was just as appealing as those who were brazen in their countenance, a la Brigitte Bardot.

Well, what I think he meant is that the girl groups of the 1960s, particularly from places like Motown and anything Phil Spector produced, tried to present their singers were aesthetically pleasing to the eye. (And, sometimes, in Spector's case, invisible. :)

So, bands that were less airbrushed would come from the indie scene, hence girls who were less aesthetically pleasing. But, see, that's not what he said. So I couldn't resist challenging it. :)

I always thought Joan Jett was hot. And Bonnie Raitt was doing the blues back then and looked pretty good, especially with the nice red hair. Then there's Blondie. And the lead singer of 'Til Tuesday. Later came the Go-Gos, who started as a punk band.
