I always enjoy Mr Lane's reviews, but even still I will go see Wanted. I'm curious to see what the man who turned the Nightwatch novels from pulpy trash to brilliant sfx driven melodramas will do with Millar's story.

Hm, I agree Xenos (again...creepy.) It's not just that Millar likes it, but he gave some decent reasons as to why. I'm down.

Read this earlier today - Millar talks more about the whole film vs. GN debate; it's a bit more fleshed out than the comments on his message board. I'm pretty impressed with how enthusiastic he is about the film; it really sounds like he sees the film's changes more as evolutions of the original ideas.
Millar's directly challenging "The Dark Knight" may be a tall order, though... but hey - maybe "Wanted" really IS just that good!![]()

Eh, personally I agree with you; TDK is going to DESTROY the competition this summer. However, I do think Wanted will beat out Hulk and take the #3 spot among all the comic book movies, behind TDK and Iron Man. If it's as good as the critics are saying, and ends up being one of those movies that people end up seeing multiple times with their friends, it could end up getting into that $180-$200 million range.
And no... I'm not forgetting about "Hancock". First off, it ain't based on a comic book, but still, I really think that one is going to surprise a lot of people and bombs. Not a total Speed Racer-style implosion or anything, but I don't think it'll make it past $150 mil, tops - the bad word-of-mouth is going to kill it after the holiday weekend.
"Soylant Green is made out of people! PEOPLE!!!"
Hancock looks to have some decent marketting publicity over Wanted and Will Smith has just enough star power that Hancock just may make a decent enough hit to whare it could make it;s money back on DVD sales if the theaters dont do it.
So if I were the people making Hancock I would expect it to make it's money on DVD sales alone. As I said before Will Smith still has enough star power to make a decent profit at the box office.
The way I look at it Wanted seems like the underdog when it comes to Superhero films because the way the media is treating Hancock they are expecting Hancock to make more money than Wanted.
Yeah I know that Angelina is in Wanted but her track record in making hit movies isn't as impressive as Will Smith's is.
Although thare coud be hope for Wanted as it has been praised by the critics while Hancock from what I have heard isn't the critics most favorite movie.

WANTED: The CBR Review
With two reviews -- one to read if you love the comic and one to read if you've never read it -- CBR takes a close look at "Wanted," the new film based on the Top Cow comic by Mark Millar and JG Jones.

I read Wanted and was no impressed.I don't see the movie changing my mind.
I read the comic and thought the art was great and the story was tripe, but I'm looking forward to the movie.
Oh, I would agree that "Hancock" will probably make it's money back once it gets to the DVD market, but that's not really saying much. These days, studios want to see a profit before the movie leaves the theaters, and considering "Hancock"'s reported $200 million dollar price tag, that probably isn't going to happen.
This is exactly why I think it's going to be such a big story when "Wanted" ends up beating out "Hancock" in overall B.O. - because the media automatically expects the bigger budgeted movie to do better. I mean, without knowing the titles, if I told you a $200 million dollar movie was going to get beaten out by a movie that was made for under $70 million, wouldn't that be a little hard to believe? But, considering the positive reviews for "Wanted" and the terrible word-of-mouth on "Hancock", that scenario seems more and more likely.
If the financial gamble pays off, which seems like a near-certainty, the execs at Universal could look like geniuses for positioning "Wanted" to be their next franchise.

Rumors are spreading on a possible Wanted sequal should the first movie becomes a hit so another Wanted movie wont be unheard of. Although a sequal to the comic is unlikely since Millar has said that he isn't interested in doing another one I believe that if money talks he just may do it just to bank on the success of the Wanted film considering how much he praised the movie to began with.
