    Default More forums?

I was curious as to why there arent seperate forums for other various comic titles? I just feel questions can get lost considering there are a large amount of posters who post here, and topics might get lost during the shuffle.

can the boards handle more forums?

There used to be more forums (Green Lantern, Legion, Wonder Woman, Flash, JLA/JSA, Hulk, Dark Horse Comics), but Jonah likes fewer forums so there is more traffic for each board and merged the boards with lesser traffic into their general boards.

understandable but maybe at the same time having seperate forums might generate more topics focusing on various characters.

I for one am surprised on the success that green lantern is having for example that theres not a forum dedicated to that title.

Thanks for answering the ? though

My experience -- having run a community for over 10 years now -- has been fewer boards tend to encourage more posting, where when you have more forums they might initially see a surge, in the long run people get tired of going from forum to forum to follow their conversations. It can tend to split the readership.

I used to mod the Flash board, and this was definitely the case. It was the height of the first Waid run, we had Flash, Impulse, All-Flash specials, Kingdom Come, Wally's inclusion in the "Big Seven" Morrison JLA... you'd think it couldn't fail, huh? After an initial couple of weeks of enthusiastic posting, it all just dropped away and no amount of moderatorial poking, prodding and encouragement could pick it up again.

The problem comes from too much choice. You can post about them on their own forum, but what if it's a crossover with a group title? Or an appearance in a third title? It generates confusion, which occasionally attracts hesitation as well. Sure, you can cross-post the same thread on all three forums to be sure of it, but you'll find that not all folks are going to be as inclined to post their responses three times, and to be frank, who needs it? So in practice, the available pool of responses is reduced by spreading the conversation to too many places. The conversation on the Flash board is missing half the participants from the JLA board, and vise-versa. Both conversations die off prematurely, whereas if they were all in the one place, more people posting on a single topic tends to produce tangents and new thoughts that keep the thread alive a lot longer.

So, we rolled Flash and GL back into the DCU board, where both enjoy healthy discussions even though they're mixed in with everything else.

With big mega-events with a limited shelf-life like Countdown or World War Hulk, this isn't as much a concern. They'll be rolled back into the main forum once the event is over and thread posting slows, that's a given. But we've still noticed that there's been a little confusion over whether a post should go in Countdown, or the DCU forum. We're never going to avoid that totally, probably.

Can we have LESS forums? I'd like a merger of the Wildstorm and Vertigo boards, as there's not a ton of "community" on either one, and often you'll get discussions overlapping between titles anyways (i.e. comparing Ex Machina and Y, or ALan Moore's ABC line and Fables or some such).

what I do is use those arrows that are on the far right and that condenses the forums for me. I did that on another messageboard and made things much "cleaner" for me.

If I dont use them I rather not have to look at them.

I still think the community board needs splitting. There should be a 'general comics discussion' forum and an 'off topic' one.
    Ted Kord is Blue Beetle!
Kyle Rainer is the one true Green Lantern!
    Wally West is the Flash!
    Donna Troy is Wonder Girl!

I think the boards are perfect as they are now, I wouldn't touch a thing.

Well, actually, the Corrie's forum probably isn't needed except for the time of year the awards are actually given out, but other than that I think the Forums are spot-on.

Though I warn you, Jonah, if you fold the Hulk forum back into Marvel U, the vacuum that created would likely cause the total destruction of the boards as we know them.

Dramatic? Only time will tell us that, my friend. ;)

I still think there should be seperate forums for various DC titles. But It's not my house.

It would probably be a good idea.

He was talking about lessening the number of boards.

Btw, thanks for that little tip about the arrows on the right side. I rarely look at the Marvel boards, etc, so it's nice to be able to shrink them.
