    Default 6 million Nickelbacks

I know there's an emphatic following of Nickelback fans in this forum and it's all time for us to get together and rejoice! Sometime this week, Nickelback's All the Right Reasons album is projected to sell its sixth million copy. Can you say "Amen!!"?

I can't quite remember the exact tally from the article I read, but I think the album has stayed in the top 20 for 60, 70, or 80 weeks in a row. Something like that. Watch out, Pink Floyd!

So give me a growling monotone of "Hallelujah!!" for the amazing efforts of Kroeger & Co. Creed has nothing on these guys!

    ....yay?

I think Nickelback has two really good songs, one or two decent songs, and a multitude of generic, formulaic, uninspired, boring, mid-tempo forgettable, mediocre crap. So, slow, simplistic, formulaic, unambitious and dull....sounds perfect for mass media consumption, and it seems the sales are backing that up.

    Hooray for mediocrity!

Sorry if I sound jaded. I just think they are incredibly overrated and dull.

I wholeheartedly agree. Their music, and I have downloaded and listened to their album, is very uninspired, but hey, if that's what it takes to make money, then yay, and stuffs. x_0

For those that like Nickelback... I don't hate them, and even like a song or two.

For those who hate Nickelback... I've never bought a single album of theirs and have no plans to start.

Sarcasm aside, I do listen to the group and do own their albums. Is it "generic" or "mediocrity"? Yeah. Are they diverse? No. But sometimes I just need some straightforward rock-n-roll -- not saying that they are the only ones I listen to when I need something like that.

While there is nothing diverse about them, they kind of have fallen into their own sound and you definitely know it's a Nickelback song. It may be crap to some or boring or perhaps even unethical to rock music, but you do know it's a Nickelback song and not to be confused with someone else's body of work. (However, I do still find that one example of two of their songs overlapped almost to perfection amusing, pathetic, and pitiful. Not enough though to make me dislike them.)

They'll never go down in the annals of music as being a great act, but kudos to them for filling in a sound that's making them mega-millionaires. And say what you will about various musicians, I doubt most of them take the plunge by stating "Let's be mediocre!" or "Let's use a singer who only uses one tone with his voice!".

And Kroeger is definitely not an attractive fella, but I but he scores on quite a few cute little booties compared to comic book geeks / musical snobs -- I would consider trading my X-men collection for some cute little booty and gobs of greenbacks. Not my Spider-Man collection though.

That's somewhat of a cop-out. Nickelback is one band. It's not like they are the presidents of a governing body that controls rock and tells other bands how to play. Maybe they might influence some up and coming bands to sound like them, but I honestly can't think of any current popular rock band that has a Nickelback influence in their sound. In fact, any band with some talented and creative musicians is more than likely to mock Nickelback and avoid sounding anything like them.

It always seems like such a weak statement to me for people to state, ". . . and they are the reason for what is wrong with this genre". If modern rock currently has some issues, then its more to the fault of a lack of creativity, perhaps musical teachers, lack of talent, and the general public on what they are buying. By no means do I see Nickelback as being very influential and altering the course of music in the future. I think we can all breathe easy about that.

He never said Nickelback were the most influential modern rock band. He said they were the embodiment of all that was wrong with current rock music. In other words, they are the perfect living, breathing example of all of the problems and faults in rock music. "You want to know what not to do? Look at them!" He never said other bands copy them.

Unless they want to play lazy music and make an ass-ton of money, which is not entirely unappealing... Still, they have some decent riffs on their non-ballads and the very rare gem. Side of a Bullet rocks.

The fact that they kind of sound like they want to be metal but are choosing to go the simplistic moronic pop-ballad rock route is almost worse than simply not being any good.

Even the standard of "mediocre" has dropped over the years.

I mean, "mediocre" used to at least get you a band such as America or Journey.

I don't like them, but to be honest their name annoys me more than their music.
