Default The Simpsons -- Season 19

Please forgive me if there's already a thread on this topic.

Tonight's episode (9/23/07) was extremely uneven. Of course that's been the case with most episodes in the past ten years.

The opening sequence was a thing of beauty, featuring lots of references to the movie. The first act was completely silly and nonsensical; Homer behaved like a second-rate Peter Griffin. However, the creators did make use of some of the innovative cinema-esque animation techniques from the movie, especially in the scenes with planes taking off or landing. The second act was hilarious, especially the Colbert character's explanation that he was a life coach rather than a shrink, psychologist or motivational speaker, and the scene where Homer hid in the ball bin. After that the episode kind of petered out.

I wonder what university the Colbert character attended that wasn't Duke or Vanderbilt. I was afraid he was going to mention my current alma mater.

Overall, this episode had scattered flashes of brilliance, but did not hang together very well -- in short, it was like most other recent Simpsons episodes.

I thought it was pretty good, I liked Homer's job interview. Like most episodes, I think I'll enjoy more on second viewing, since you notice the little jokes more than the plot, which tends to be the weakest part of the show.

It seems like Homer is staring to revert back into his stupid, but caring Family man mentality.

Probably not. He'll just live in constant pain for the rest of his life. Gill's not lucky enough to die.

Pretty good ep on Sunday though. Probably the best one this season so far. Granted, Marge has taken in criminals before, but Buscemi did well.
The Punisher: I’m going to cauterize your rectum, sealing it shut, so when you turn those delicious Pink Pants™ Fruit Pies into waste products the bilirubin in your feces will leach into your bloodstream and you’ll die screaming! And I’ll watch while having sex with this grateful prostitute!

I'm just going to say that the Movie was the end of the series. It ended on too great of a note.

I liked the scene a couple weeks ago, where Homer was telling stories to the other towtruck drivers: "Once there was an ogre named Shrek 3 who lived in medieval times, but sometimes talked like today times."

I liked that too. I thought the episode with him being a tow-truck driver was one of the funniest in a while. Been watching the show since Tracey Ullmann. Much more down than up in recent years, as many say ad nauseum. And I do think there are funnier shows on now. While it's not Must See TV, I still Tivo it every week and watch it when I can.

Yeah, but I've placed the episode in which he becomes an opera barotone as one of my least favorite. The sniper sequence annoyed me.

Last Sunday's episode was okay, but I can tell the jokes that don't end a mile away.

First new one I've seen in awhile. Another flashback story, and another musical career for Homer, but I thought it was still pretty good. The grunge parodies killed me, they hit so close to home. And the professor was funny, though I'm surprised they didn't get a celebrity for a role like that.

The commercial throwaway joke was great.

There's been a few good episodes. The one where Ralph ran for president was awesome.

I wonder how many of this type of the ilk the series has outlived...

More then you, and I could ever know. This show is going to end whenever it's creator says it will. Not many shows can claim that.
