One more day was a good read. The only problem with the selection of books mentioned was that Peter made a dumb choice and Marvel didn't think it all through.
Any way Max carnage is a long way back. I would skip The Other cause it don't matter. But some of the clone saga should be read. I left after Pete was show. To be fake and really came back when he joined the Avengers.
Maybe I'm older but Spidey will never be the same.

Our dilemma is that we hate change and love it at the same time; what we really want is for things to remain the same but get better.

So I just bought the entire Spider-Island run, including all tie-in issues, off of eBay for fairly cheap. Please tell me this storyline doesn't disappoint. I've been away from Spider-Man forever and I'd hate to come back to a big pile of...

Also, is the new Venom series worth checking out?

I enjoyed it. The tie ins where hit or miss for me but the main book and the venom books are good.

Do you mean the Venom books are just good as far as Spider-Island goes or is it good overall?

So, why did Marvel chicken out with the Clone Saga, anyway? The original plan was for the Parkers to have a healthy baby and ride off into the sunset, leaving Ben in the role of Spider-Man permanently. What made them change their collective mind? Did sales plummet with Ben as the lead? Did they receive that many angry letters? Or do we know the reason at all?

Readers were angry. Writers were angry. Sales plummeted, although that was true of the entire comics industry at the time.

If you're curious about the details, there's an extensive look on the subject by Andrew Goletz (Ben Reilly fan and Grayhaven Comics founder) and Glenn Greenberg (Spider-Man editor during the Clone Saga.)

It's possible that there will be a lot of reactions to your post, in which case I'll make your Clone Saga post the start of a new thread.

Really? I'd actually expect the opposite. Big upheavals tend to draw in readers (or at least they do today, dunno about the '90s), and then there's the whole "Like you would really do it" factor.

Can someone give me a rundown of all the monthly Spider-Man titles in the main continuity? I was planning on just following ASM and maybe Venom however, I was just on Midtown Comics site and saw "Amazing Spider-Man #679.1". Really? .1? What is this? There is also the title that is simply "Spider-Man", and Scarlet Spider releasing soon.

I'll probably be dropping some of my DC titles soon so along with Amazing, I may follow 1 or 2 other Spidey titles if they are worth it.

.1 is supposed to be a story that is mainly a way to make it easier for new readers to know what is going on. I believe the Spider-Man book is its only little thing kind of like Untold Tales of spiderman was in the 90's (not sure on that one) the only other Spidey is Avenging but that seems to basically just be Marvel Team up book that will have Spidey as a part of the team each issue.

So .1 is basically cliff notes in comic form. Is there a .1 issue released along side each of the 2 monthly ASM? How many titles does Spider-Man typically appear in each month? It seems Spidey is like Batman, gotta have him appear in as many titles as possible to keep sales up.

nope .1 is a full brand new story. Its just considered a jump on point for new readers.

Last .1 issue was where flash got the venom suit, It set up the Venom series and a few other story lines for asm's to come.

So only one .1 has been released this year? I really hope my OCD doesn't kick in and I start following everything Spider-Man related. I've been doing that with Batman and Superman since I started reading comics. So the main continuity Spider-Man books are...

    Amazing Spider-man
    Avengers
    Avenging Spider-man
    Fantastic Four
    FF
    New Avengers
    Scarlet Spider
    Spider-Man
    Venom

    Is that all of them?

There was another .1 issue last year. That one was a self-contained spotlight on the new Venom. The next one will be a self-contained spotlight on Morbius. The .1 issues don't come out very often.

The Clone Saga started at around the time the Collectors bubble burst. And sales did increase, at first.

But the sales peaked, and there was soon a major decline.
