On the anime side, the Oracion Seis have certainly leveled up. How are FT supposed to beat these guys again?

They must've escaped prison a while ago to get that strong. I wonder if Richard/Hoteye is still stuck in there? Poor guy; everyone from the Nirvana incident has broken out now except him. Did FT even get around to telling Wally about him before Acnologia happened?

I stand by my theory that the Cardinal is Brain.

I get how Midnight (lol "Brain II") can no-sell Dan's shield since he can just reverse the scattershot, but I'm not sure how he sealed Byro's dispelling staff. At any rate, Byro got jobbed hard if Natsu was healthier than him after that explosion.

Erigor seems kind of crazy now, in an intensely focused way. Wonder what happened there.

I'm personally hopign that they'll do it by teaming up like three or four on one.

But yeah, this is how you do a timeskip power up right. Though I'm not entirely sure just what Cobra did.

For the first bit I'm guessing that Midnight's magic power was just greater than Byro's and overcame the nullifying effect that way. For the second bit, Byro hasn't actually taken all that many hits, what with nullifying most of it. So we don't know how tough he really is.

Mirajane's a beatstick. Gray has more variety and isn't too far below Mira. plus Gray wants it more

IIRC he was physically tangling with Gildartz, which should mean something for durability.

Maybe. This tournament has been around for seven years right? Maybe all those previous tournaments, and this one, were preperations for what will happen on the 7th of July.

Looking at the point I'm thinking that Fairy Tail will win this one. That'll put them one point ahead of Sabertooth and Sting will be so very pissed about giving up those two points to Natsu during Chariot, and Lucy will be avenged this way.

Nah. It's more about attitude I think. Gray is closer to Lucy and he's more inclined to kick some ass than Mirajane who prefers the quiet life.

Yeah, something like that. I wonder if he developed his telepathy/heart reading to make up for not Cuberios around for his poisons anymore? I hope that he still has his poison magic though. I like those.

I dunno, Erza has alot on her plate this arc. If a fight with Kagura drains her batteries, I could see Mira subbing in.

It's kind of interesting how this chapter sets up Erza and Minerva as a future match-up along with the ones we already knew about (the dragon slayers throwing down, Gray/Rufus and Laxus/Orga). I do wonder how Erza is going to have time for both Minerva and Kagura, though there's still one big event left after the tag team fights and then whatever the Zeref fanboys are planning.

Honestly, seeing Minerva faced with a pissed off Satan Soul would be kinda awesome.

I think Grey is on the team because he already thinks that he's supposed to be the guy that takes down Rufus' Memory Make magic.

Wow, Bunny totally caught me off guard with being Nichiya. That was...rather amusing though. Mavis' face was priceless, and Erza nearly fainting with "Ichiya became two people..." made me laugh.

At least Ichiya got to show his talked-about power for the first time, like, ever--instead of just being the whipping doll joke again. And one of his opponents was credible.

Pity that Mermaid Heel vs. Lamia got skipped over. A draw with neither one backing down. Pretty much expected Kagura to not show her true strength yet...interesting that she apparently never has in all the competitions. I guess I don't mind the skip, though it would have been nice to see how that other guy with Leon has changed over the last seven years.

On to the Dragon Slayer Tag team match. And holy crap actual dragons!

Wow, Bunny totally caught me off guard with being Nichiya. That was...rather amusing though. Mavis' face was priceless, and Erza nearly fainting with "Ichiya became two people..." made me laugh.

I enjoyed the twist as well. It's a fun subversion with the mystery member being stupidly weak and incapable of fighting. Well done Mashima. Though I have to wonder how Ichiya sold the whole thing to Bob.

Yep. I wonder we'll have to wait for another 161 chapters before he does it again. And poor poor Quatro Puppy. I actually thought that they'd get a win here.

One real dragon at least, and probably the names of Rogue and Sting's dragon parents. I wonder if Igneel's just been sitting around there in those volcano lands all this time.

I'm hoping that the dragon slayer fight threatens to seriously damage the colosseum as collateral damage.

No. That was Igneel. The only Fairy Tail dragon that has a more classical western dragon design.

Poor Bacchus getting jobbed so fast. Although Ichiya's muscle form is stronger than expected. (Technically that form can't be the only reason Erza respects him though, since she had never seen it before ch.162.)

It feels like Mashima is skipping alot to throw the anime some bones and stay ahead of it. FT's always moved fast, but man.
