    Okay this was dumb.

There is nothing I dislike so much as fake difficulty.

You know, when due to circumstances the heroes present a poor showing against the antagonist, not reflecting of their true abilities, and end up looking like losers and all that? Yeah...

It was the same with Lucy's first match.

Hell, I have nothing against Fairy Tail losing (and in fact I have been waiting for it for white a while) but the whole 'Aquarius ditches Lucy... yet again in a situation where she could have won things for her'... yeah..

I have the same perception as some others. I'm okay, maybe even a bit glad that Lucy lost. It shows that the Fairytail world is stilll vast and the characters have still a lot to learn. And it means there are more stories to tell.

But I was disappointed that Minerva ended up being another insane sadist. I was hoping of a better character than that. And I'm also kind of disappointed at how Juvia lost the battle. She was pretty much beaten in her own element and was unable to show more to her than her infatuation of Grey. I'd really like to see more inspiring aspectes to her character.

But this chapter was suprising in some ways.
Sometimes you lose things which you don't expect losing. It doesn't make the hurt any less.

She matched strengths with Aquarius and kicked three people out of the water at the same time, probably would've gotten Lucy out as well sooner rather than later. Yeah Minerva kicked Juvia out of the water but it's implied that she could've done so to the lot of them if she'd chosen to.

There's nothing terrible at all about Juvia's performance in this chapter.

So Juvia becomes the first person to actually use her second source, but didn't really do anything with it that was nearly as impressive as matching Aquarius (or scaring Erza pre-timeskip). I'll handwave Minerva's magic smacking someone made of living water, I guess. Erza had swords that did that, so Minerva shoulda prepped spells for dealing with Lluvia just in case.

Aquarius ditching is a giant cop-out (especially since the time-dilation means that she probably spent about a millisecond of Spirit World time; Lucy shoulda summoned Scorpio after she left just to teach her a lesson), and I'm wondering why she didn't pull out her magic whip (which she is damn good with) or Gemini. Hell, the moment that I heard "Naval" I was hoping that Lucy would have had Gemini surreptitiously duplicate Aquarius or Juvia just in case she flaked out like this.

Also, even though Sabretooth and Raven Tail were douchebags, Lamia Scale and Mermaid Heel seem alright thus far. Quatro Puppy too, other than Bacchus taking Cana's top and making dirty comments about Elfman's sisters (arguably to psych him out or get him to fight all out considering how laid back he was during and after the fight).
Fox Mr. Sinister (holding Rogue's chin): "So beautiful, yet so strong."

Fox Wolverine: "Well, I always did think I was kinda cute. Nice of you to mention it."

Have you tried using a whip under water? I haven't either but I imagine that it's kind of tricky, and I doubt that Scorpio's sand attacks would be all that great under water either. You're totally right about Lucy not using Gemini to her advantage and full potential. It's kind of funny how Lucy is the one with the widest array of abilities in the manga while unfortunately also being the person that uses them the least creatively.

Blue Pegasus are also ok guys, though they're kind of weird. And just looking over previous arcs one can find opponents that while not exactly good can be fairly honorable and actually decent once they worked through their own issues.

Good point about whips being hard to use underwater, but considering that she seems to have been using some kind of spell to breathe/talk under water and that she has a magic whip that is based on the river of stars, I'd be surprised if she can't use that under water as well.

And the Scorpio bit was more about spite than anything else. The .0002 relative seconds that Scorpio is late for their date would teach Aquarius not to screw around like that.

Right, I forgot about Blue Pegasus. Lamia Scale is a good show for the latter type.

Really, other than the two Dragon Slayers who have yet to do anything of note, nobody in Sabretooth is very interesting to me, not even Minerva.

Meanwhile, all the other teams have people that have strong relationships to FT, neat abilities, cool personalities and awesome feats.

EDIT: Just looked up Lucy's whip on the FT wiki since I couldn't remember it too well. The Fleuve d'étoiles is basically MADE for this type of competition, being a whip that is made of water and stars which uses very little magic and only exists as a handle when not in use.

I like Rogue so far. He has the coolest design on his team and has actually shown a little deeper personality beyond a stoic douche due to the caring side he's shown towards Frosch.

It is true saddly. There so much going on that Sabertooth hasn't really been built up as much besides glory seeking douches. And their top two guys haven't even been able to show off their supposedly mad dragon slayer skills. Hopefully they'll get to do just that in the tag team battle.

Oh dear. Well, it's not like she had a chance to use it. She started out with Aquarius, best bet. That was countered and then Juvia started throwing people around forcing Lucy to focus on staying in the water. Then Minerva stole Lucy's equipment and from there she was kind of screwed.

The bit that irks me is how she only got taken out is because she was busy mooning over Grey.

I mean, I look at Juvia in that fight and I see a strong and highly competent mage in her element. She should have utterly dominated everyone. The problem is, she has to stop and check to whether Grey is approving of her actions. And so she gets gimped out.

She needs to face it, dude is not interested. She needs to accept that and move on.

Then maybe she could get... you know, another personality trait beyond "Blind devotion to Grey," and "Shy,"

She also has the whole "Nakama = Totes Awesome" thing that everyone in FT has. And actually, I think a chapter in this arc had Grey kinda tacitly admit that he realizes that she's in love with him and kinda show some interest back (as well as some jealousy towards Leon's open declarations of love). Even still though, I think that shouting "Wings of Love! Grey-sama Love!" in public is pushing it.

OTOH, since Minerva's push magic apparently works just fine on Juvia's watery body, then there's really little to nothing that Juvia could do to counter it, especially as Minerva no-sold Juvia's AOE attack without blinking. EDIT: Actually, I guess if she wanted something super-effective, she could have tried turning the entire bubble boiling hot. Don't see how Minerva would keep from being scalded pretty badly by that since it wouldn't be a pressure wave or anything. OTOH, this wasn't a serious fight and that would have hit Lucy, so it is perfectly in character for Juvia to limit herself in this manner. And everyone else should be thanking the gods that Fairy Tail B didn't choose to send out Laxus instead.

And looking back, it doesn't look like Lucy even brought her whip with her. *shakes head*

Byro Cracy is a pimp ....... VERY very different from his Edo counterpart . Good thing it looks that while a bit knight templarish he's not really a villain .

It's a good episode this week. It has a nice ominous world-is-ending feel to it and while I don't actually like the thing about Cobra's snake being a human that was transformed I am actually interested in where they're going with this. And I do look forward to seeing what the new Oracion Seis are able to do.

For the battle part of the fourth day these are my fight predictions.
Ichiya & Rabbit-man vs. Toby & Yuka vs. two Quatro Puppy guys
Gajeel & Cana vs. Mermaid Scale ladies
    Natsu & Erza/Gray vs. Sting & Rogue

Although I it's probably two on two fights I wouldn't mind a three on three battle to see Natsu, Gray and Erza duke it out against a trio of Sabertooth's group.

Li'l too much specious speechifying from both sides, but at least Byro could multitask that and smacking Natsu around

I caught on too late that the returning four members + Erigor + Jackpot = six members again.

... Is that Cardinal Brain? It's hard to tell if the sameface is intentional

Byro (and Dan) vs FT vs O6 is alot of rock-paper-scissors to speculate on. Do the O6 have any tricks (that we know of) that can touch Byro?

Racer, with a possible post-timeskip speed boost, could blitz him into the ground I guess.

EDIT: ...what the hell is Angel going to do? I mean, Lucy's got all her stellar spirits.
