A "good loser" would be someone who is gracious about being beaten fairly. IMO, a "noble loser" would be someone who, even if they're opponent blatantly cheated, showed dignity, courage and skill regardless. Lucy was pretty much a class act throughout the entire fight, and I doubt that Raven Tail is gonna write her off in later matches, if they've got any braincells .

I am not sure, but I see it a losing for a noble reason or at least that's how I understood the term. Say if she had lost because she surrendered because the girl was in danger, I'd see that as noble.

As it is, she was cheated out of a victory, ended on the floor crying with an stadium laughing at her. I can't really call that noble.

She tried to surrender to save Asuka, but Flare refused to let her because she was a sadistic whackjob. When that was over, she curbstomped Flare and brought out two to three legendary magics to do so (depending on whether or not she used Unison Raid to synch with Gemini).

she was crying because she felt that she had let down her team, and Natsu reassured her that it wasn't her fault at all, which it wasn't. It doesn't matter that the entire audience was laughing at her; they didn't have all the information. They were cheering her on well enough when she was beating Flare's ass fair and square.

I know. I read. Doesn't strike me as a noble loss though.

My re-reading continues as does my notes.

    Tower of Paradise arc
    - I think I liked Jellal more as a villain. He was less personality deficient back then.
    - We seriously need some larger explanation to how the seals that held back Zeref's powers worked and how this whole thing with the tower was a step towards unsealing him.
    - I think that I finally understand the explanation for how Erza survived the vortex when the tower asploded. But how the hell did Jellal's body not get atomised?
    - I'd totally forgotten that Lucy had faced a mage that used his hair as a weapon before Flare. I wonder if she can do some of the tricks that Vidalas was capable of.
    - I'd forgotten that Igneel and Grandine talked briefly about Zeref. Makes me wonder what kind of relation he and Acnologia has to the dragons.

    Fairy Tail Fight arc
    - When it comes to a win/loss ration Gray is probably the most balanced of all the main characters.
    - Will we ever get to know what Freed's eye-power is or has Mashima just forgotten about that? I fear that it's the latter.
    - In hindsight it's pretty clever to make the only other healer in the manga an alternate version of the dragon that teaches healing magic. It's the whole magic branch that much more special.
    - I've said it before and I'll say it again. I love Lucy's development, both as a character and in her abilities.

My personal theory is that it was Erza's friend, Shimon, who fused with the Aetherion tower to send all that energy into the sky instead of Jellal. And we will see him in the future as a horrible monster warped by Aetherion magic.

Wasn't it explained that Jellal's role was to act as a giant lightning rod to attract everyone's attention while Hades and co did the real job?

And then Zeref pointed out that everything surrounding him being "sealed" was a dumb legend that was false just before killing them all.

Please God no. Erza's wishful pet-theory is embarrassing enough without it also posthumously NTR'ing Shimon so hard he rises from the grave.

My theory used to be it was Mistgun, but Edoras put an end to that

Same here. That's pretty typical of Fairy Tail, though. It seems that every arc starts that way. Of course a lot of Manga try and do that but I think Fairy Tail pulls it off more successfully then most.

It was pretty awsome seeing Lucy just straight up kicking someone's ass. I mean, I know she lost but that was only because Raven Tail are cheating Scumbags!
I know this sounds all fanboyish but I so love Natsu & Lucy

I'm not so sure that's a good thing. I think a lot of the villains can end up as throw away characters because of that. Maybe that's okay if the mangaka is able to continue making new villains. But because of that, it lessens the reusability and potential for the characters to grow. Even villains have the potential to become interesting, using them the way Flare was used in the previous chapter just cheapens them.

The bout between Lucy and Flare left much to be desired. I liked the fact that Lucy was able to pull out new techniques with her celestial spirits, but I would have wanted some creativity and skill in battle. Something along the lines of Ippo Makunochi's second fight with Sendoh, the anime battle of Yuyu Hakusho where Yosuke battled Yomi. I believe that what truly brings out the shine of a hero is the darkness of the villain. I want Lucy to be interesting and I want Flare to be interesting, and an interesting battle to be brought forth between them. But that didn't happen. It kind of feels like I was expecting a battle between BJ Pen and George Saint Pierre only to have Pierre fight a random novice thug.

All in all the chapter was okay, IMO. But I personally didn't like it. Though I liked the fact that Natsu was showing some great maturity. I didn't expect him to be the one to have a cool head. And I'm still conflicted on whether Fairy Tail A team should be in a tournament they barely even trained for. How about their other team members? Could they have trained? Could they be strong enough to compete in this tournament?

Personally, I'm okay with Fairy Tail B team. I hope they kick butt in this tournament.

Sometimes you lose things which you don't expect losing. It doesn't make the hurt any less.

Mashima did another round of fanservice pics. Inevitably some higher quality, larger scans of the images will show up. Right now I just have one of Ultear and pre-timeskip Meldy in bikinis. The other ones are a pic of Bisca and Evergreen, and a pic of Erza, Lucy, and Wendy lying in bed in different kinds of fetish outfits.
