Honestly, in any competition that doesn't involve direct combat, Lucy could be all kinds of hax. Fairly intelligent and with a wide degree of versatility, as well as her power basically allowing her to summon advisers for second opinions and tactical help, as well as copying enemy powers (and knowledge) and weakening any humans that are around.

Heck, during the Hidden match, she could have used Virgo to hide under ground, have Gemini pretend to be her or another of the competitors if it gets the opportunity (as well as summoning as well), and had Caprico weaken any humans that came near her which might count as an attack and get her points while it shouldn't affect the illusionary clones.

Or heck, have Gemini touch Makarov before the fight (because there's pretty much no situation where having Makarov on your side if you wish would be a downside) and use Fairy Law. Lucy +Everyone but Juvia, no one but her and Juvia able to continue the match.

Interesting chapter; moved at a nice pace--got to see a lot of things and the event also moved on.

Sabretooth is the real deal. Memory Make seems like it might be something similar to Rusty Rose's magic, with less power in terms of what it can create, but additional flexibility in that it can also cause illusory effects, or something.

Vegetable magic? Quatro guy uses plant or earth magic.

Doe levy know that Gajeel wants Lucy to dance in front of him in a bunny costume.

Flare Corona is as hot as her name. But she also looks like a psycho bitch. Like, so psycho that if she tore off her clothes and said "take me now," you'd be like, "Let me think about this for a second..."

Battle could go either way. If Lucy wins team A makes up a little for Gray's loss. If she loses, they can probably make it up later. Flare will probably try to torture Lucy rather than just simply defeat her though.

Flare Coronoa is totally a Pyromancer name. I'd be surprised if she's anything else, except maybe light related.

Anyone think there is more to Gray's angry reaction near the end than just being upset at the loss? The strange magic that's in the area. Could it be something like Nirvana, only in this case specifically bringing out your anger/fury? I only say this because Gray seems way too vengeful. I understand that the Raven Tail dude was being a prick, but I don't think it's like Gray to get *that* pissed off about it.

The way I see it, Fairy Tail will lose the first half of the competitions in order for the manga to show what their opposition (namely Raven Tail and Sabertooth) is capable of. Then in the second half, Fairy Tail will turn it around once Meldy recovers and that nifty powerup Urtear gave them comes into play.

The anime's started dipping into its final-battle budget. Everyone vs Hades was nice and dynamic

I realized something... This arc is the perfect way to introduce Raven Tail (and Sabretooth) as villains without having a definitive victory/defeat. Since, if Fairy Tail loses, it's not necessarily due to lack of power, or if Fairy Tail manages to pull a shonen win by the end, they remain credible threats since they weren't defeated in all-out combat.

The anime's started dipping into its final-battle budget. Everyone vs Hades was nice and dynamic

And awesome. I got really pumped during that fight. The coreography, the animation and the music all really synched up excellently.

Oh, how I wish that they could make more of the Fairy Tail fights like this and not just te final battles.

Also, Zancrow be dead.

Yeah. I was a bit worried if they'd neuter that scene but they actually made it more chilling than in the manga.

Here we got to see Zancrow go all deathly pale and shit.

Also, Mashima seems to be padding recent chapters with the Mavis tournament-rule recaps, and now reused art. Wonder if he's buying time for planning or something.

I have to agree. The recent chapter seems padded. Page space is used in introducing the battle and rules.

Also, the battle with Flare isn't off to a good start. Her powers aren't that interesting. And I was hoping for a more interesting take on her character instead of a person who resorts to dirty tactics to win.

Hopefully it picks up soon.

This is the type of fighting I've been wanting to see from Lucy for a while now. Hopefully she can keep this level of competency, though I won't mind her falling due to goofyness now and again.

I am so pumped right now.
