But at this point, I think Fairy Tail has fallen into the repeated pattern of going into a weakened state, then getting a massive powerup that defeats the opponent.

In this case the opponent got a depowerment.

Still not a very convincing defeat, but hey, it's something different.

Next Arc: They have to rescue him from prison to solve a problem only he can help with. And then him and Natsu power each other up and beat the bad guy. And they go off and make sweet love with Lucy and Erza.

Others may think differently, but I felt underwhelmed by this chapter. I was kind of hoping that Fairy Tail would actually lose, thus causing big changes to occur.

I've been hoping for that ever since GH showed up, but the arc's passed up so many opportunities that by this point I wasn't really expecting it anymore.

Well... I suppose this can still happen later.

Well, yes and no. It can't happen later, because Mashima used up all the good stuff building up this arc. Urtear, the longest-running villain, is gone. Grimoire Heart is gone. The second master of FT is gone. Gildartz's lesson about fear is gone. There's practically no way a future arc can recreate that sense of inevitable defeat, especially now that it's failed once

The only "hope" now is if Zeref and Acnologia ruins everyone's day, but even that is kind of a consolation prize at this point. (Oh, and we still need to know what the boy staring at the sea is all about.)

There's a non-zero chance that Hades could wake up and use the last of his magic to nuke everybody with a Grimoire Law as a last ditch effort.

It would certainly amuse me.

Well, Hades finally got what he deserved from the guild, it was nice to see them find a way to get through to him and have their attacks finally do some damage. This past weeks chapter was very action packed and really interesting to me, Fairy Tail is definately in my top 3 favorite manga series and if the plot remains as strong as it has with action like we've been getting, I could totally see it moving up my list.

I do want to see more Erza though, she's become my favorite character in the book and I'm hoping to see her more involved with a major plot than hanging in the backdrop during huge battles.

Yeah yeah yeah Zeref makes big dark statement, Hade's has an "Oh shit what did we unleash?!" look, that was like the least interesting thing in this chapter. Most interesting? Gildartz talking shit to Laxus baby.

edit: And I think they were trying to make up for lost time with fan service in this chapter too.

BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! This chapter was freaking hilarious!

Between Laxus' gang's reactions to him showing up, Juvia wanting to be punished by Gray, Natsu fainting in front of Gajeel, Gildartz talking shit to Laxus and Marakov's giant head I was in stiches.

I also enjoyed Marakov's and Hades' talk. It felt really grand and like a good closure.

Nice ominous ending as well.

Only problem... we missed seeing nurse Erza!
