Sam & Dani

During their time on the New Mutants, Cannonball shared the role of c-leader of the team. Now, many of us think Dani was a much more natural leader. She took to it better. But Sam was always the heart...and seemed more likable and motivational.

Additionally, there always seemed to be the possibility of romance between the two. However, for whatever reason, it remained just that: a possibility. Dani had tension with James. Sam had to deal with Rahne's crush and then found Lila. And ultimately Dani was lost to Asgard and things have never really been the same since.

Who do you think is/was the better leader? And would you have liked to see (or would you like to see) a romance develop between the two?

I think Dani was the better leader, but I liked the idea of more than one. Things are always more interesting with more than one chef in the kitchen. As for romance, well, Dani seems like a Lesbian to me, but that may just be the Claremont mojo. Plus, Sam has Bobby these days. There's really no room for Dani.

Dani had a strong bond with Rahne, but I always tokk that more of young girls friendship, nothing lesbian about it. Actually, even the one who turned to be gay didn't seem like that in the original NM run.

Another observation...It's funny that Dani's a long-time agent of SHIELD, but in The Last Avengers Story it's Sam that's a member of the Avengers.

LOL yeah but...Dani was boinking that one FBI agent dude in Academy X and I know she had a brief crush on Robert Da Costa. Anyways, Dani was just more natural in the leadership ways.

Sam at times could be really clunky and make mistakes. As for them hooking up? I think there were/are better matchmates for each of them.

i've gotta agree. i love sam, but in the new mutants dani was the better leader. Now X-force is a whole nother story :).

and i also love seeing a guy and a girl be great friends with no romantic angst whatsoever. so i vote no on the shaggin also :)

I actually loved seeing Siryn as leader in X-Force, especially when Dani and Sam were both on the squad. It was an interesting dynamic. I was sad that Siryn got the shaft at the hands of Feral.

Dani was a much better leader than Sam at the time but I think it was a good idea for her and Sam to share the role. Dani was very aggressive and Stubborn in those times while same was more reserved. I think the dual leadership role lead to personal development for both characters

I never saw a relationship between the two characters beyond friendship and preferred it that way. I would have much rather seen dani with James.

Another plus for dani was that the other members of the team seemed to naturally gravitate to her for help. Both Rhane and Bobby looked up to her and she was the only one that Illyana would talk to when she first joined the team...

Dani seemed like a lesbian to me , but Clairmont wrote most of the women like they were lesbians .
I wish Dani was back in an X-book . I really hate that they kicked Dani out for losing her powers , but let that kid David stay . I 'd love to see Dani get her Valkyrie powers kicked up and come back as a major player .
Personally , I 'd be all over a New Mutants /X-Force revival book with Dani , Sam , Sunspot , Rhane , Illyana , Magma , Karma .

I remember Dani trying to awkwardly hook Shan up with, um, Luna? It was so clumsy and weird that it erased any thoughts of Dani being a full blown Claremontian lesbian from my mind.

Though I have no desire to see her hook up with Sam. It would have been interesting to see them as the Storm and Cyclops of the next generation, leading two separate X-Men teams.

Dani was a better leader when they were young students, but Sam emerged as the better battlefield leader in X-Force.

I don't understand why people think Dani is gay. Can't characters have close female friends, even close gay friends, without being labeled gay?
