Dear Rachel Summers' fans, don't you think that the whole point of Avengers vs X-Men (which I'm reading only now) was kind of stupid?
Captain America kept saying that the Phoenix Force was a parasite willing to corrupt its host and destroy the world. While Rachel was able to control it for a very long time without any kind of collateral damage. What's your opinion?

Yeah, AvX was a garbage story. I don't think there is any defending it on the basis of how much important history it ignored. It was just bad, but at least Rachel had a pretty good showing in some of its tie-ins. Better than most other X-Men anyway.

The Avengers operated about the same as your mainstream comic reader who isn't immersed in X minutiae. In other words the Phoenix was the thing Jean Grey had to kill herself over and that's all it ever did.

Yeah, there's just one problem with all that... Unless you start quoting "What If..." issues -- Phoenix/Jean Grey has only committed suicide once. And, the events that led to that were driven by a specific set of circumstances. Funny, how the Phoenix Force is responsible for so much destruction... Yet, up until Phoenix: End/War Song ~ AvX; I can't recall the Phoenix Force doing anything to make Captain America say "It destroys everything it touches", when canonically that hasn't been the case.
