It's not. Earth-22 Superman thought it was, because he was taken from the moment the bomb detonated. As the last issue of Thy Kingdom Come showed, he lived a long (1000+) year life, so presumably the planet lived too.
Earth-1 is revealed to be home to the new DC's line 'Earth-One', a re-imagining of the DC Universe's classic heroes.

Also, what Rorschach says holds true. Earth-16 was retconned to become the Earth of the 'Young Justice' events. Personally, I prefer this! I believe that the 52 Multiverse should be separate from 'Elseworlds', which could potentially be the general term describing "What if..." stories, such as 'Super Sons', 'Red Son', or Vampire Batman. :P
On the other hand, check 'New Frontier' and 'Kingdom Come' continuities. They are hardly just a few issues and have expanded in other media as well. For example, New Frontier even has a Feature Movie, and Kingdom Come has made several appearances. Not to mention Earth-12 (DCAU) which is fully established and awesome!
So, if it was me, I'd make clear that there are not just 52 Earths, as in 52 possibilities. That would be rather abstract -- let's face it. So, I'd prefer if the most significant continuities were part of the '52 Multiverse', and Elseworlds were, rather, part of the most expanded Multiverse.
New Earth
Pre-Crisis Earth-One
Pre-Crisis Earth-Two
DCAU
Earth One (Modern)
These would be the most obvious choices.
Unfortunately, the current Earth-2 seems like a rather different kind of evolution of the pre-Crisis Earth-Two, while the Silver Age Earth-One doesn't even exist. Either way, I still think they could organize the Multiverse better! The "Modern Earth One" is a very positive step!
I've read in various sites a description for Earth-49:
But I can't find any reference to Earth-49 in Countdown to Final Crisis. Any of you guys have?Originally Posted by Wikipedia
Not sure if their are legal bindings in play but which earth is home to the watchmen?
As far as I know, DC has never made any official attempt to "tie in" the Watchmen miniseries to their "multiversal continuity." I believe Alan Moore's "Watchmen" falls into the category of "a quirky miniseries we once published, which is not connected to any of the parallel Earths featured in any of our other titles."
I think the same statement applies to the "Earths" of other self-contained miniseries of the 80s and 90s which were published by DC, such as Alan Moore's "V for Vendetta," Jim Starlin's "Gilgamesh II," Frank Miller's "Ronin," and other odds and ends.
Have the '52 earths' been done away with, post Flashpoint?
why not have Earth-14 be the home of the Stan Lee created characters from Just Imagine?

Unknown at this time. All we have are hints that there will be an Earth 2. And the fact that the Grant Morrison Multiversity series, which would be set on several different Earths, has not necessarily been cancelled and is still planned.

Dc has not revealed the total scope of the DCnU Multiverse yet, but Dan DiDio has stated that they would slowly roll out the Multiverse.
The 2 ideas that seem to be going around about the New Multiverse is:
1) The old 52 Earths have been reset after Flashpoint. Hence the redo with the Earth-2 Justice Society.
2) An Infinite Multiverse as has been hinted at by comments by Dan DiDio.
We will just have to wait and see in the coming months.
We're still waiting for all of this to be resolved, following the Flashpoint miniseries. It looks like all the characters who originated on Earth-2 (prior to Crisis on Infinite Earths, 1985) are missing from the post-Flashpoint Earth.
A new 'Earth-2' comic is in production. The indications are that the multiverse is back, and this could be more like the pre-1985 multiverse than the '52' multiverse.
Its all part of a very slow reveal.
