Well, our current, shitty Fourth Estate should be in rainbows and lollipops over the Fairness Doctrine, as it would make their jobs that much less subtle, and easier than all that actual thinkin' about complex issues.

Thanks Loren. I'm going to kill myself now.

It's about time. There hasn't been nearly enough pro-cancer representation in the news, I've been saying it for years.

I do. As a policy for government-sponsored information, it's a pretty good idea to keep things politically neutral, and to note real, factual controversy when such exists. Outside that particular arena, such a concept is antithetical to concepts of free speech.

As a general policy for all media, it's a fairly stupid idea.

Uhm, almost no one is talking about the article!

Well, *I* liked it, anyways! I didn't even know what yaoi and yuri were. I know so little about manga and the like.

I really liked the writers stories, and I'm looking forward to reading the rest. Good job!

Anyways, I'm off. I have a part time job making some extra money scrubbing some existential internet philosopher with iron wool.

    BTW, Emmet --

I'm only skimming the piece at work, but it looked like the end of the article went a bit glitchy.

That Emmett attempted to engage subjects with "anti" GLBT viewpoints is of course his privilege as a writer and may even make for a more interesting read, but it is my view that such a courtesy is not warranted, as some in this thread have suggested.

As I said before, any view in opposition to GLBT or their rights and freedoms is invalid in the 21st century. The idea that "balance" is required on this issue makes as much sense as giving oxygen haters equal time. It's just absurd to hold such beliefs. Ridiculous. Stupid. Boring.

I know some people in this thread are unable to reconcile this paradoxical concept of intolerance of intolerance and it's plainly making their heads explode like some kind of outdated Star Trek robot -- but that's obviously the point, isn't it? We've moved on as a people, and people who haven't deserve to have their heads explode in a puff of bullshit.

My biggest problem is that this article is about homosexuality in SUPERHERO comics, which is funny, since that's where it's usually presented in the most inane possible way.

Talking to Devin Grayson or Scott Lobdell before Alison Bechdel, Xaime Hernandez, Maurice Vellekoop, Howard Cruse, and the legions of creators who have written really tremendous works featuring homosexuality breaks my heart.

If it doesn't happen in TEEN TITANS, it ain't comics.

It's wanting to know that makes us matter. Otherwise we're going out the way we came in. That's why you can't believe in the afterlife. Believe in the after, by all means, but not the life. Believe in God, the soul, the spirit, the infinite, believe in angels if you like, but not in the great celestial get-together for an exchange of views. If the answers are in the back of the book I can wait, but what a drag. Better to struggle on knowing that failure is final. - Hannah, Arcadia

See, this is a valid criticism of the article :)

I did approach some of those people, and really wish they'd been able to participate. It would be fascinating to hear what they have to say on these issues!
