    Default Thoughts about Ms. Marvel

ok so i was just wondering does ms. marvel's current costume (warbird) have any meaning to it. i understand her old ones but the lighting bolt thingy, red belt that serves no purpose. i like the costume but im just curious if theres a point to it or someone just sketched it and was like "hey thats cool" lol

I think it helps to distance her from the Captain Marvel legacy. It makes her her own hero, and not just some branch on another tree. And, in my opinion, it looks better.

By the way where did you get those pics?

It all about sex appeal. She is the Marvel version of Power Girl. Which is why I unaffectionally call her Ms Marvelthong.

yeah Daeji said it best...it was to distance herself from the Captain....and I agree that it was for the better...that outfit didnt look right on her...I like the current one....I wonder if the sash around her waist was the scarf around her neck..........and I believe those pics look like Ronnie Thunderbolts artwork.

If you look at a lot of popular female heroes, you're going to see a lot of sex appeal. Take Wonder Woman for example; she fights in little more than a one-piece strapless bathing suit. With boots. At least Ms. Marvel has straps. Kinda.

And RonnieThunderbolts it is criminal that you are not working for Marvel on one of their books!

Which is why I have such disdain for most comic heroines. Most of them are either ripoffs of preexisting male characters (She-Hulk, Supergirl, or Spiderwoman) or presented as eye candy for the creator and fans to get off on (Psylocke, PowerGirl, Ms Marvel, Emma Frost, many many more).

Give me fully clothed and intelligent heroines any day like Kitty Pryde, Jenny Sparks, or Sue Richards.

The funny thing is, back in her old series and original costume Carol was actually a lot less - hmm shall we say "enhanced" :D , than she (and Power Girl and a lot of others) are being drawn now.
As for the Captain Marvel legacy, he was just about my favourite hero when I was a kid, and thus Carol my favourite heroine, I kind of hope there will always be a nod to the legacy.
I always thought Carol should have been the one to take up the Captain Marvel name not the totally unrelated or unconnected Monica Rambeau. I never much cared for Monica purely because she had my favourite's identity but nothing to do with him.

Let me just defend the honor of one character that has gotten unfair treatment in this thread.

Though many creators do draw alot of provocative pictures of her because of her figure, Power Girl is a very developed character otherwise, not to mention, not all her costumes had the window (the most prominent one being the yellow-and-white uniform). More developed than Jenny Sparks arguably.

Back on topic, Ms. Marvel used to be one of my favorite Marvel Superheroines (and she's still pretty up there), but one event kinda messed that up for me.

    Civil War.

Now, I hold a lot of dislike for her, but I still like her more than Wasp or Elektra.

If I remember correctly the costume change was a nod to DC (maybe to Captain Marvel Jr.) I'll dig a bit (I think it's in the Urban Legends Column or either one of my Comic Box).

Ms. Marvel changed her costume because she did not want to be identified as simply a female version of the Kree Captain Marvel; she is human. Her reasons for changing are cleary stated in Ms. Marvel #19 & Ms. Marvel #20 (first series).
