Default JLAvengers League: Froggy vs. Mike Smash! & ragnarok_2012

Welcome to another match of the 2007 JLAvengers League! The League is a large-scale series of battles—a tournament—where posters draft teams and pit their teams against that of other posters, and you vote to decide who wins. When voting, please consider the strategies the players have written, rather than just the team's roster.

Each match takes place in a different locale from the Marvel or DC Universe. The teams begin 100 yards away from each other. Each character is depicted as they were in the JLA/Avengers mini series (with few exceptions), and the characters have to act in character (meaning that the heroes cannot kill if they aren't normally wont to do so)

If you have any questions about the strategies, please feel free to post these questions here, and the players will answer. The match will last twenty-four hours. After that time period, the player with the largest number of votes wins.

NOTE - For your vote to count, you must have a post count of no lower than fifty.

    Froggy's strategy:

in Metropolis defending the Medusa Mask

Alright so here's my strategy. Mike/Rags will probably have Felix Faust and MIGHT have Black Alice in a safe zone made by sinestro, or try to protect his team, I'd try the "Gladiator does a SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE" and goes underground and pops up in the bubble, suprising faust and the other two in there, taking Alice and faust out at the same time.

`IF mike instead wants to have the hulk rumble withi sinestro somehow creating constructs to fight my team, I'd have Coldcast stop his body cold by manipulating his electrons, and then absorbing his energy to add to the power of his punches so he can tussel with Prof Hulk, leaving hulk open for a WHAMMO type of punch from Hyperion, and a few more of those punches from both of them with hulks electrons and movement being slowed he should be stunned and or KO'ed into unconsciousness.

Stargirl is mroe than a match for black alice, but Namor would probably be overkill for her, so i'd sacrifice Lord Zedd (I do this alot don't I?) and have Hyperion tussle with Namor in the skies above Metropolis, using his flash vision on Namor's atlantean skin to cause him extra pain along with his class 100 punches, and slam him to the ground in metropolis a fried prince of atlantis, defeated and well done

Mary Marvel and Terrax are two powerhouses as well, but then again I have Gladiator, Flash and Starbolt, and Flash is in the DC Universe, so I think these 3 can handle these two. Gladiator can hold off terrax for a good enough amoutn of time until Hype and Coldcast finish off hulk and Namor, after which Hyperion can come to aid Glads fighting Terrax along with Flash who steals Mary Marvel's speed and proceeds to let Hype KO' her, and then aid GLads and Starbolt in fighting Terrax.

Glads holding Terrax down so STarbolt and FLash can assault him, Flash using punches with built up mass and shockwave punches to help them take down Terrax, before letting him go and fighting him mano e mano since Terrax is herald level, and glads is as well having beat the silver surfer, and takes him on while Hyperion sneaks up in the air and aids him, with FLash boosting Hype and Glads speed to levels faster than Terrax has EVER seen, allowign them to beat down on him so fast he can't even tell wehre they are, as the flash slows him down to the point he's a statue, and falls out of the sky, frozen

    Mike Smash! & ragnarok_2012's strategy:

Team Smash/Ragnarok vs. Team Froggy in Metropolis

    Round 1:

Faust will cast a mystical force field around our team that will, among other things, screen out the effects of Coldcast’s powers. It will allow his teammates to enter and leave at will.

Sinestro’s ring automatically generates a force field around himself. As his first action, he attacks Coldcast with a shower of ring-generated blades with monomolecular edges. Any innocent bystanders (or members of Team Froggy) that are hit in the ensuing attack…well that’s just icing on the cake.

Black Alice’s immediate action is to steal the powers of Black Adam (Dipset says this is an option) and Circe.

Terrax imprisons Starbolt with his earth manipulation powers (whether he’s on the ground or in the air), and moves to grappling distance. Any energy attacks that Starbolt launches at our team will be absorbed by Terrax.

Prince Namor, Mary Marvel and the Hulk target Hyperion and Gladiator. Mary Marvel picks up the Hulk and the two of them close to grappling distance with Hyperion. Namor attacks Gladiator. While we don’t think that Namor, by himself, can defeat Gladiator, he can fight a holding action against him while Mary and the Hulk defeat Hyperion. Once Hyperion is defeated, the three of them will dogpile Gladiator.

    Round 2:

Black Alice uses the powers of Circe to mind control the Flash. She will send Wally after Coldcast for a surprise attack (if Sinestro’s attack was unsuccessful). If Coldcast has been disabled by Sinestro, then Flash will launch attacks of opportunity at his teammates. If the Flash is down, Black Alice will mind control Coldcast and have HIM attack his teammates. If Coldcast has already been defeated, Black Alice will attempt to mind control Hyperion and send him after Gladiator or his other teammates.

It is worth noting that Hyperion has a long history of being vulnerable to mind control.

Let’s say that Hyperion, Coldcast, and the Flash have all been disabled. If this is the case, Black Alice will start turning members of Team Froggy into pigs as she shouts “Two legs baaaad.”

Terrax drains the energy from Starbolt and uses the power cosmic to destroy him.

If anything goes wrong, Sinestro will attack, in this order of priority: Coldcast, the Flash, Courtney (employing an EMP blast to destroy her tech before launching a direct attack), Lord Zedd, Hyperion, Gladiator and Starbolt.

Faust, as his second action, will use his mystical abilities to summon a gigantic rainstorm. This will give Namor some sustenance as he fights Gladiator.

Mike & I had the same initial thought:

"Gladiator is gonna make the Earth spin backwards, reversing time?"

He meant Gladiator rips off his chest emblem and throws it at you.

I really regret that we didn't specify a bottom on the force field and am willing to concede that you have very likely just taken out Faust. He's got a notorious glass jaw and a shot from Gladiator would knock his ass out. Thankfully, he really isn't a major part of our strategy in this battle.

Given that Gladiator is burrowing through 100 yards of concrete and pipes towards us - something that would take a few seconds, I will argue that this does not knock out Alice before she can steal Black Adam's powers - and his invulnerablility. Leaving out the no-speedblitz rules, I will argue that Faust is down, but Alice got the powers before Gladiator sucker punches her.

However, standing right next to her and looking for a fight with Gladiator is Namor the Sub-Mariner. He can certainly hold off Gladiator for a short while, especially if he's jumping someone else. Alice can easily join that fight in a moment, since she'd still be conscious.

Well, I'm not sure what you're saying, but I have to assume that you're using Coldcast to stop the Hulk in his tracks. That will definitely stop him. Temporarily.

If the Hulk has done one thing over and over during his appearances in comics over the years, it's breaking out of impossible restraints. Hell, some of them even break all semblance of logic and reality - even by comic book standards. He's ripped open the fabric of space/time with his bare hands once because he got pissed enough. And nothing angers the Hulk like trying to restrain him. He's stopped the Juggernaut, moved the Blob and broken the Crimson Bands of Cyttorak.

But even then, I think Sinestro would have cut Coldcast to shreds by then with a hail of yellow energy blades -- he doesn't mention any defenses. For him, or his teammates. I can't find any evidence on wikipedia or anywhere else that Coldcast has the ability to absorb energy of any kind.

Stargirl is mroe than a match for black alice,
    Not with Black Adam's power.

    True.

Well, not if Hyperion is busy with the Hulk at the time.

I agree with Mike on this one.

    Good job, Froggy!

I'm glad Black Alice has the power of Black Adam!

Yeah, I don't see any defenses in your strategy, so Coldcast is getting whacked.

And can you cite any instances in the comics where Coldcast shows the ability to absorb energy?

Yeah, I was ready to argue around it, but I had nothing. I'm impressed. You managed to target one of our most powerful and versatile (and physically vulnerable) characters and take him down very quickly. Thank goodness our plan isn't hinging on him the way it was in the last two battles.

I tip my hat to you.

I'm glad Black Alice has the power of Black Adam!
    As am I. :)

Hi! Just a brief note on Circe's power: it's not really 'mind control.' At least I don't think it is. I see it more as a potent love/enamorment spell. I believe she can enthrall most men, hold their attention, 'excite' them, and if they're totally willing, get them to obey her. She also mentally controls anyone she's transformed. However, both these methods have been previously thwarted at times. Wally seems to have average willpower and pre-Linda, was known for his roving eye, so I think he IS susceptible, but his hyper-metabolism and his undying love for Linda (plus no backup for Circe's power-- i.e. telepathy or additional spells) means he may break control before he does *too* much damage...

Huh. That wasn't very brief at all. Sorry.

Well it is Wally and we only need him for a short time to take down Coldcast. And I hear Wally is rather speedy. :)

I wasn't disputing that it could be done for what you need her to do, but I just didn't want to give the impression (via my previous strat) that Circe would give J'onn or any other decent telepath sleepless nights in a purely mental melee.

Ah, with her mind control. But with her sorcery, which is on par with Strange and Fate - she IS a goddess, after all, she could probably bind someone with a spell. I don't think she has much as experience as a specialist like J'Onn would have, but she could do it.

Honestly, I think that Sinestro's attack kills Coldcast in Round 1.

You're almost certainly right that J'Onn outclasses Circe when it comes to telepathy.

I know you've already conceded that what we're trying to do would work. I just also wanted to point out that Froggy's team has no telepaths. And Hyperion in particular is notoriously vulnerable to psychic attacks.

Well, yeah. He doesn't have a defense or shield and I think that given that he rained blades down on them (the advantage of playing a villain), we may have hit more than just Coldcast alone.
