Default Avatar Contest for the Week of July 04-10

"First the rules, in case anyone is unaware of them:

The contest begins on Wednesday (or as soon as the winner can start a new thread) and ends on Tuesday, at which point voting begins, ending when Tuesday ends in all time zones. As a rule, voting before Tuesday is frowned upon, though exceptions are made if you've got a good reason.

Suggesting avatar ideas for others is also frowned upon. By suggesting, you are basically removing that idea from consideration.

If you want to be eligible to win the "contest" then you must keep your entered avatar for the entire week. Changing your avatar before the week is up will disqualify you, unless you're changing it to something else that fits the contest theme and announce your change in the thread."

So my first thought was something related to the current U.S. holiday, but that's today. So carrying it forward for the next week would be sort of stale.

So I thought of something else that's tied into current events. At least in geekland. Which reminded me that it was the very first avatar contest I entered. So it's all cosmic and stuff. And just overflowing with possibility.

    Ladies and gentlemen:

    Robots

    Edit: Androids and cyborgs count.

He has led the fight for justice on two worlds. His name is a byword for "freedom" throughout the galaxy. He's John Wayne in giant robot form. He's Optimus Prime.

What do you get when you put Felix "Cousin Itt" in a robot costume and give him Mel Blanc's voice? Only that obnoxious R2-D2 wannabe Twiki from the 70s crapfe... er, TV classic Buck Rogers.

They came from a distant planet. Two warring factions of robots graced with the ability to change their shapes and disguise themselves as earthly objects, they came to battle each other on 20th century earth.

No, not the Transformers. The other guys. The Beta tapes and eight-tracks of the changes-from-car-to-fightin'-robot world:the GoBots.

I'm in with Clockwork Smurf, because what's cooler than a medieval clockwork robot? A medieval clockwork robot that looks like a Smurf, that's what!

Known simply as the Robot, this Model B9 delivered such classic quotes as...

    "Warning! Warning! Alien approaching!"

    "That does not compute."

    And, of course...

    "Danger, Will Robinson! Danger!"
