    Hi.

Just started reading Guardians of the galaxy by Abnett & Lanning and am really, really enjoying it so far - up to volume 3: "War of Kings pt 2." I plan on getting into more of the cosmic stuff now.

Anyway I have 3 main questions:

    1. Can anyone recommend where to start regarding Annihilation etc that came before the GOTG series? I am really confused regarding the reading order for this event.

    2. Rocket Raccoon is so awesome, I would love if anyone could recommend me some other Rocky stories worth reading, and where I can find them.

    3. Is there any Rocket Raccoon merchandise or t-shirts? That guy is frickin' AWESOME!

    Thanks
By the Hoary Hosts of Hoggoth

You’re better off reading trades/hardcovers since the events are kind of oddly structured. Case in point, that first Ahilation event starts with a one-shot which leads into four simultaneously running character minis which in turn lead into the main Annihilation mini which was followed by two Heralds of Galactus issues. The later events aren’t much easier to follow in singles. That isn’t even taking into account the years of Thanos, F4, X-Men, Hulk, ect stories that set the stage. Luckily the series does a relatively good job of explaining as it goes so you don’t actually HAVE to read Thunderbolts to know why Jack Flag is in the Negative Zone.

    Here’s the short (collected) version…

    1) Annihilation (three collections)
    2) Annihilation: Conquest (two collections …which include the Nova ongoing tie-in)
    3) War of Kings (one collection plus Nova and GotG tie-in collections. Also you might look into the Road to War of Kings trade since it catches you up on a lot of the X-Men and Inhuman story elements)
    4) Realm of Kings (one collection plus Nova and GotG tie-in collections)
    5) Thanos Imperative (one collection)
    6) Annihilators (one collection)

There’s been more stuff since (a Rocket Raccoon/ Grott mini and an Annihilators sequel) but I don’t think they’ve been traded and I don’t know where they fit relative to each other.

Note that I have the Hardcovers for the events and trades of the tie-ins. I know some of the stories as collected slightly differently when the event trades came out. For example, the Quasar mini is part of the Conquest HCs but has its own separate TPB. I also understand that they chopped the War of Kings HC into two TPBs which don’t include the Son of Hulk stuff. Wiki is your friend on that.

    2. Rocket Raccoon is so awesome, I would love if anyone could recommend me some other Rocky stories worth reading, and where I can find them.
The Annihilation Classic collection has the original 80s Rocket Raccoon mini drawn by Mike “Hellboy” Mignola. I’ll warn you that – while it is fun – the tone is a lot different from GotG.
New and improved me. Now with a CAPITAL “B”.

Default Help me get into these Comic Book series!

After carefully dipping my toes into the Marvel Universe by picking up Fear Itself, I've decided to plunge in completley and start following 5 different series.

Could anyone give me the best place to hop into these lines? (Issue numbers ect.)

    The Invincible Iron Man
Journey into Mystery (I know there's a point 1 issue here, how does that work? Do I just go from that and into the next issue?)
    Uncanny X-Men
    Captain America
    Wolverine

    Thanks a lot!

    Yes.

Cap and Uncanny have new #1s. Uncanny in a month or so.

I love the Iron Man series. Sure start with point one but it is one large story and have no problem recommending the trades of the entire series.

Also don't let people or the industry tell you is is so hard to get into comics. We all started somewhere during a time where publishers didn't "make it easy" to jump in. I learned as I went absent the internet and I did fine. I still enjoyed the things.

Thanks, any idea about when Captain America .1 is coming out? And due to Bucky gone, will it be Steve Rogers who 'Wields the Shield'?

Where would you recomend jumping on with Iron Man? It'd be nice to be able to read the whole series but I'm going to try to purchase as few back issues as I can for this, mainly 'cos I'll probably have trouble affording 5 issues each month.

EDIT: I actually think I know where to jump on with all these except for Iron Man and Captain America, this is where I'd like the most tips!

For IM wait until Fear Itself is over. Do you monitor the solicitations that come out every month?

Once the tie ins are done for that series there will be a good jumping on point. But take it slow there is always a bit here and there that you will need ot learn but don't let that discourage u.

You should try New Avengers 16.1 also it's a great series imho. It comes out this month.

    And New Avengers Annual 1

New Avengers is the pulse of what is going on in all of the MU. It's a cool and different series.

as suggested, wait until fear itself is completely over.

Also, Journey into Mystery 626.1 actually takes place between panels from issue 622. so its not as good of a jumping on point (no pun intended, like marvel initially said the *.1 issues would be).

of those i get Iron Man and Journey into Mystery, and fear itself is ending soon, so wait til then or you can probably find the fear itself tie ins still, so you can always go backwards to fill in some gaps from the main fear itself mini by picking up IIM and JiM issues that have the Fear Itself banner, so thats actually option 2.
Marvel: ASM, Deadpool, Thor, Iron Man, etc
DC: Batman and related, Green Lantern, The Flash, etc
Omnibus wishlist: Classic Deadpool, Pak Hulk, Spider-Man 2099

Okay, I think I know where I'm going to go with this. And I might be able to stretch to having 6 issues per month, not sure though... Thanks for your help!

Got a tight budget eh? lol me too! I haven't bough anything for months but I just monitor. I am trade waiting now as well. In some instances if youre patient enough it's cheaper that way.

    September solicits.

If you really want to jump into something read the Schism miniseries and jump into the Xmen Regenesis relauch.

Start with Gillens run of Thor which leads into and changes it's title into Journey into Mystery and maybe pick up fractions thor title as well. Ideally the .1 issues are jump on friendly so, you could do that, personally I'm not so sure most .1's are jump on friendly.

I'd pick up the Schism series going on right now and probably the Prelude to Schism as well because when that mini is over the X-titles split into two camps one side is Wolverine the other Cyclops.

    Wolverine:
    Wolverine and the X-Men
    Uncanny X-force
    X-Men Legacy
    New Mutants

    Cyclops:
    Uncanny X-Men
    New Mutants
    Generation Hope
    X-Men

For info on when those titles change over or if you can't wait and want some X-stuff that came out already like past events etc.. I'd say ask over in the X-Men section because they can give you some really in depth info.

You could start with Cap's relaunch it's at issue #2 and also, Captain America and Bucky which the title was changed to and deals with past stories from WWII with Bucky or, you could go back to the beginning of Brubaker's run on the series.

I'd start with Aaron's Weapon X stuff and then from there the current series. Afterwards you can work your way back to other Wolverine titles like origins and I'd say the Old Man Logan issues from Millar & McNiven are also worth checking out.

Also if you want to understand the basis for Marvel over the last 5 years you I highly Recommend these:

    Avengers Disassembled
    Secret War by BENDIS
    House of M.
    Annihilation
    CIVIL WAR

That's not counting the other cosmic books. But these are sold in trade. You don't HAVE to get them however.
