If you're a Batman reader and likes crime/noir stuff, you should pick up Cap. America, Daredevil and Criminal, all by Ed Brubaker, and Moon Knight. If you liked Millar's writing, he begins on Fantastic Four on February. If you like Iron Man, you might pick up his own book, which is pretty good right now.

I think the lack of epicness in Civil War actually says a lot about Marvel over DC. Personally, I think DC tend to care about events more than they care about characters, and Marvel are vice versa. Because in the end, Avengers Disassembled, House of M and Civil War... they all came down to characters. Especially Civil War. SOmething like Infinite Crisis is massive and epic, but you can't identify with the characters. Hell, the Flash had exactly 1 page of appearance in Infinite Crisis before his big sacrifice section, and that was more than most. Marvel focus on fewer main characters, but focus on them a LOT.

For the aftermath of Civil War, it depends what you like. In general, just buy comics from the first "Initiative" issue to catch up on that particular comic after Civil War.

My big personal recommendation is "Captain America", which is the best comic ANY company is putting out right now.

If you liked CW, the Initiative books might be good for you, since they spin out of it. And Iron Man.

    Default Thor any good?

So I wanted to pickup the Thor book of issues #1-3, but a buddy of mine suggested I skip it, as he said the writer wasn't any good. I'm wondering if there are other opinions out there. Anyone reading this? Is it worth a try?

    Thanks.

If you're interested in big, epic crossovers, the Planet Hulk HC is a good deal for a great story. And though I've only read Book 1, last summer's Annihilation also seems great and is just being released in TPB.

you'd be a fool NOT to read Brubaker's and Fraction's Immortal Iron Fist.

Issue #10 came out just yesterday and I believe that the first tpb is out already and it collects #1-#6 so it's not that hard to catch up on marvel's Best book.

Planet Hulk wasn't a crossover was it? I thought it was a self-contained Hulk story.

Got to second that motion, Iron Fist is the best Marvel is the best Marvel has to offer and still quite young, you need to jump aboard, if not for you, at least for the children you have or will have.

Also, I'm suggest Amazing Spider-Girl, it's not in the mainstream Marvel 616 universe but it is a pretty good, fun read. Also, Amazing Spider-Man is getting a major overhaul in January, if you don't mind the 3 times a month deal, it may be worth a newcomer checking out maybe.

I'd recommend Captain America, Daredevil and Punisher:war journal. Also New Avengers is good and whereas I don't care for the character, many people seem to enjoy Iron Fist

Hah! Way to throw in a random one with Penance.

But yeah I'm not going to try to inundate you with titles because that'll make your head and wallet explode so just start small with Immortal Iron Fist, Captain America, and Daredevil. They're consistently good to great and are very well praised.

I personally love the Avengers stuff but that depends on how you like Bendis's writing style.

I never read more than a few Marvel titles for most of my comic reading life, but during the last few years I've found myself enjoying the titles that avoid (to some extent) the gigantic multi-title crossover storylines. Collected editions of several fantastic miniseries of the last couple years worth checking out -
Strange (the "re-telling" of the Dr. Strange origin, originally intended to be a movie plot),..Ghost Rider "Road to Damnation", ...Moon Knight "Bottom", .The Defenders (can't remember what it's called - but man it is hilarious), and any of the new X-Factor books - is there a Madrox collected trade? If so, read that one first. I've got nothing against the big books (Avengers, X-Men, etc), I even buy a couple X-titles, but they have huge ups and downs and I don't always find myself looking forward to the next issue.

I'm going to have to throw in another vote for Immortal Iron Fist.
