There was a very enjoyable series some years back called "Cable & Deadpool" that I enjoyed a lot. It was like the Odd Couple for Super Heroes so that may be something else to check out if you are a big Cable fan.

Hey everyone, I'm mostly a DC fan, but I've started reading Amazing Spider-Man and would like to try a few more Marvel books. I've always liked Thor and Ironman so I was wondering if you all could tell me a good place to jump in it?

Well the best Thor stuff ever written is Walt Simonson's Thor run. The trades and the omnibus are on Amazon of course. I don't think it's a bad place to start, as long as you know the basics about Thor, which most comic fans do now. This is where I got into Thor. Then I read Vol. 2.

Then there's JMS' Thor Vol. 3 which is very good and a natural place to start.

Thor: The Mighty Avenger was a short lived series but is a good introduction.

Thor: Blood Oath is a great limited series any Thor fan should check out.

The current Thor ongoing sadly isn't that good.

Really, you can jump on anywhere if you just know the basics, which Wikipedia is full off. You can catch up in 20 minutes on the whole history of the character.

I'd start with essential Stan Lee stories or Walt Simonson, then go to Vol. 2 then JMS Vol. 3.

Matt Fraction's Invincible Iron Man vol. 1 or Extremis. Two perfect places to start for upcoming Iron Man fans.

And you can always pick up Essential Iron Man vol. 1, and start from the beginning with silver-age goodness.

Simonson's Thor is classic, but it is from the 80s.

More modern take, JMS Thor (which is in trade or collected all together in an Omnibus), followed by Kieron Gillen's run on Thor (which is collected in an Ultimate Collection TPB).

Right now, I love Journey Into Mystery better than Thor. It's about Loki, but he's a kid with a fresh start. Lots of fun and great writing by Kieron Gillen.

Hi guys. A regular DC reader here. I'm trying to branch out and I would like to pick up on some comics that caught my interest.
So here's my list:

Fantastic Four

Captain Marvel

Iron Man/ War Machine

Squadron Supreme

Thor

Where do I begin with these guys?
Any recommended reading?

The last issue, #13 I believe, is actually a fine place to jump on for Mighty Thor. It's the start of a new arc and, thus far, Fraction's arcs have been relatively free-standing from one another. Having read #13, I don't think a new reader would be any more lost than someone who'd been following from issue one.

Invincible Iron Man is tougher. It's one of my favourite books, but the current arc...the last issue is technically the start of a new arc (I think), but it builds on previous events and this is the beginning of the end of Matt Fraction's several year long run on the book. It's really great, but I'd recommend starting from the first trade of it (Invincible Iron Man: the Five Nightmares). It's just not very accessible at the moment to new readers, as it's a fairly lengthy run reaching its climax/conclusion.

Fantastic Four - Mark Waid's run is available in Ultimate Collections, and is very good.
Otherwise, just start from the first trade of Jonathan Hickman's run and work your way through it/go from there. It's very, very good.

Iron Man - I'd recommend starting with Iron Man Extremis by Warren Ellis, and then moving on to Matt Fraction's run, starting with the Five Nightmares trade

Thor - for older stuff, there's Walt Simonson's run. Otherwise, I'd look at picking up J. Michael Straczynski's run. Kieron Gillen's run immediately following that was also solid and wrapped up some loose ends from JMS' run.

(Not that I'm going to disagree with you on the Iron Man stuff, but...) I jumped onto the book during the Fear Itself .1 (.2 or .3) issue and have been reading it since. Didn't feel lost or anything. Suggesting the OP start from the beginning and work their way up, don't you think that's a little, um, daunting and/or time consuming/pricy?

I just want to give a big thanks to Telos for giving such tailored advice to everybody.

I often think a series I have read would be a good option for somebody, and Telos has usually included it as a suggestion. There are a lot of series suggested that I have not read, but imagine that they fit what people are asking.

I'm thinking of getting Daredevil, Gambit and Hawkeye (if they are $2.99 - its 1.7X that here in Singapore). So which $3.99 titles should I drop? I'm getting these every month...

Yes, do this. You'd be surprised how up-to-date you can keep just by reading previews, spoilers and reviews with scans.

If you're not too closely attached to them, drop both Ultimate books. You'll save even more money down the line when they begin to tie into an eventual Ultimate event.
