Hey guys! Im looking for a good place to jump into the marvel world as I have with the New 52....the Relaunch made it easier for me to do that, but what would be a good place to start with Marvel? I am currently doing the AvsX but would like to expand a little. Thanks guys!
I'd say jump into Wolverine and the X-Men with issue #9 as it ties into AvX and is a great book, if you have the money, go back and get the previous issues along with the Schism hardcover, which sets up WATXM and the general X-Men splitting point that sent Cyclops and Wolverine in different directions.
Also, Secret Avengers #26 is an AvX tie-in, but also a good book by Rick Remender, he took it over with issue 21.1, but #26 starts a new direction for AvX
Currently recommending: Daredevil, Mudman ( it's back!), Hawkguy, and FF. Can't miss!
What kinda stuff are you into? Epic-scale stuff (Mighty Thor, Journey Into Mystery)? Street level stuff (Scarlet Spider)? In-between (Amazing Spider-Man)?
New Avengers, Morbius The Living Vampire, Scarlet Spider, Iron Man, Fearless Defenders, Fantastic Four, Deadpool Killogy, Savage Wolverine, Wolverine, Uncanny X-Men & X-Force, Cable & X-Force, Gambit
Thunderbolts is about to become Dark Avengers in one issue (issue #175) which would be a PERFECT "jumping on point" AND if you love it; collecting the few Dark Avengers TPB's is very easy (there are only 5 in total, including their return).![]()

Captain America started with a new arc this week. It pulls on some old history, but it's pretty good at filling in the exposition, and with Ed Brubaker on it, it's still one of the best books out there.
Mark Waid's Daredevil is almost always new reader friendly, almost to a fault. And if you want to pick up the previous issues, he's been on the series a year, so that's two trades, and it's some of the best superhero work out there right now, period. Like, it's up for a bunch of Eisners, which is the industry's version of the Oscars.
And if you're reading AvX, you might want to go back a bit and get the Dark Phoenix storyline in trade.
As for new epic scale stuff, right now, that's pretty much all AvX and its tie-ins. It's the epic of epic epics kinda deal, you know? Although you might enjoy Defenders as well, which has only been coming out for like seven issues, so back issues/trades shouldn't be hard to hunt down.

Also, just a warning, the internet can be a dickish place to find out about new comics. As in "I just got into reading comics, I've been enjoying AVX..." "YOUR TASTE IN COMICS SUCK!!!!!" Which is to say, like what you like, ignore the haters, you'll be happier for it.

Just commenting because you brought up one book, Fantastic Four, absolute genius right now... not new reader friendly in the slightest. If you're game for it, worth tracking down all the trades written by Jonathan Hickman, because they're awesome. But it's this massive, enormous epic, and you need to have read all of it or it doesn't work, or at least doesn't reward you in nearly the same way as it does a long-term reader. Which it does, incredibly well I might add, but right now it's all about wrapping up the last couple years of storylines before he leaves the book.

Hey guys,
Im new to reading comics and am a bit lost so was wondering if anybody could please advise me.
When i was a younger i always liked the character "Cable" so i decided to pick up a graphic novel involving him. I found "cable, Messiah war" and then realised it was the first volume of his series so i purchased the rest (waiting for the end of the world, Xforce/cable Messiah war, stranded and homecoming)
I really wanted to start these but after looking it up i noticed they follow on from "X-men Messiah complex" which follows on from the "Decimation" series and "House of M"
It seems like a lot of reading to get through before i can start the Cable series but i dont want to miss anything major.
I have purchased the "House of M" graphic novel which i have now started as from what i understand its the begining of the whole story and also the Messiah Complex as i read its an excellent read.
My questions are-
Will i definatly need to read all the Decimation series before i start the Cable series to understand whats going on or can i go back to them afterwards?
Ive now decovered "X-men: second coming" and was wondering when i should read it? does it follow the end of the cable series?
Ive also seen "X-men Endangered species" and "Wolverine origins and endings" and was wondering if they are vital to the the whole story?
I would really appreciate any help people could give me.
Hi, welcome to the CBR forums!
You don't need to read Decimation. Just get House of M, Messiah Complex, then Cable's series. Second Coming follows the end of Cable's series.
Don't bother with Wolverine: Origins and Endings, it's bad. X-Men: Endangered Species is okay, but only if you're a fan of Beast. It has no impact on Cable.
Hi,
Thanks for the welcome and thanks very much for the advise. its much appreciated.
No worries, glad I could help.
If you like Cable you may also want to try Avengers: X-Sanction, which takes place after Second Coming. It's a fun Cable vs Avengers mashup.
Now that sounds brilliant!! I'll defiantly check it out. Thanks again.
