Default Does the DCAU have only one Flash?

Unlike the comics DCU, the DCAU features only one Flash, Wally West.

Are we to assume that in the DCAU, there never was a Jay Garrick or a Barry Allen, and that Wally is the one and only Flash this universe has ever had?

There are little in-joke references to other the Flashes, such as Jay Garrick's helmet appearing in the Flash Museum in Flash and Substance, but the fact that no other Flash has ever been directly referenced makes it likely that Wally is the only one.

Of course, if you subscribe to the idea that Teen Titans is in-continuity (which I don't), Wally West appears as Kid Flash, so there's obviously a Barry Allen.

I think there's only 1 flash in the DCAU , the jay garrick counterpart in DCAU is the streak from justice guild which is obvious.

I think Wally is the only Flash in DCAU.

I think the closest thing we ever got to seeing Barry was when Timm spoke about doing an episode with the original seven, unfortunately that idea never got off the ground.

But seeing that the Original Seven in the DCAU were the seven who formed the Justice League after the first two episodes of the series (i.e. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Wally-Flash, John Stewart GL, Martian Manhunter, and Hawkgirl), was there any other "Original Seven" in the DCAU?

Jay Garrick appears in an issue of the JLU comic book.

If Justice League exists in the same universe as the Superman animated series, then no, there weren't any active superheroes prior to Superman showing up, and their meeting in the first few episodes of Justice League was pretty much the first time that any of them got together (besides the Batman/Superman team-ups).

Batman was active for a decade-plus before Superman.

According to the creators on the last JLU DVD they were trying to do a Barry Allen, Hal Jordan and Katar Hol show (and ended up doing just a Hawkman show). So I think they entertained possibility of having another Flash on the show.

Considering how they ultimately portrayed Carter Hall -- as a suicide-committing, multiple personality syndrome-suffering stalker -- I'd count my blessings that Barry didn't make it onto the show. I try to forget "Ancient History" ever even happened, myself. Not to mention Hro Talak, whom Timm & co. allegedly wanted to just call Katar Hol, being an outright villain. Alas, as much as I love JLU, and I really do, as a Hawkman fan, I felt insulted by these renditions. At least Shayera was cool, though, if not nearly a wholly different character from the comics.

Anywho, Barry was at least mentioned once, if only in the subtlest of ways. Wally talks about his "uncle" coming for his museum's opening in "Flash and Substance." Until I watched that episode again recently, I even had it in my head that he said, "Uncle Barry." Doubtful he was imbued with the Speed Force as well, however, but I'm sure there are fanfics out there that explore the idea.:)

Doesn't Hal only exist as an alternate timeline joke?

Not as a joke. He appears in "The Once and Future Thing" when he starts phasing in and out of Kyle's place, but no one seems to be at a loss for who he actually is. I could almost swear that in "The Return" when John Stewart is making his case to the Guardians to let him rejoin the Corps in space he makes a passing reference to Hal being on a mission, but I could be wrong.

At any rate, a very similar looking Hal has appeared in "Duck Dodgers of the 23rd and a 1/2 Century"--that was kind of a joke, but oddly enough it worked really well and you took Hal at face value.

Also, I think in the S:TAS there's an airplane labeled "Col. Hal Jordan" in the "In Darkest Night" episode.

I was thinking more in-joke, as opposed to ha ha joke, but that's basically what I was thinking.

I seem to remember that in one episode, Wally flashes to his origin, which ironically is him in a lab coat getting hit with chemicals.

I beleive they tried to merge Wally and Barry. I dont believe their is any traditional Barry allen, Flash in the DCAU. For that matter do they ever use the "secret Id?" His costume and attitude scream Wally, but with zero focus on the personal life I don't know.

Too be honest that is one of the reasons I always liked Barry. His origin is very self contained. If Wally was ever toget a movie or something his story has to get totally scewed, or be dependant on OTHER characters to be introduced first.

As for Wally's secret ID, in the series finale of the original JL series Wally takes off his costume and Wonder Woman says, "Red. It fits." So I'm guessing no one knew who Wally was before, which would seem to fit with him having a secret ID.
