Thanks to our good rockin' buddy, Spikey, I managed to acquire a copy of 'A Blessing And A Curse' and by thunder, it's some fine, fine stuff.
It's quite odd. They have a kind of opposite Warren Zevon thing happen.
Zevon does up-beat songs with downbeat lyrics and the Truckers do the opposite.
It's the damnedest thing.
'Gravity's Gone' is probably my favourite.
howyadoin?
I have only a handful of Drive-By Truckers songs. I positivity love 'Lookout Mountain.' 'The Day John Henry Died' and, like Pól mentioned, 'Gravity's Gone' are great songs. 'Feb 14' is another good one. The one song I'm not sure I could listen to with any sort of frequency is 'A World of Hurt.'
great band, - seen 'em live a few years ago, - while Jason Isbell was still in DBT. All-in-All, I would like to see these guys every time they come to town, - enjoyed it.
Their whole discography is great, -every album is worth its own merit., and i have not yet listened to the newest release The Big To Do, but.....
For me, - nothing beats their albums Decoration Day, and Dirty South.
Decoration Day was mellowed and stripped down, - lyrically it's a dark record. come to think of it, I don't know if there are very many DBT Albums that are uplifting. The album takes an inside look at life in the South with a song here and there that delves into folklore.
Favorite Tracks from Decoration Day:
"Sink Hole" (Hood)
"Marry Me" (Cooley)
"My Sweet Annette" (Hood)
"Outfit" (Isbell)
"Heathens" (Hood)
"Sounds Better in the Song" (Cooley)
"When the Pin Hits the Shell" (Cooley)
"Decoration Day" (Isbell)
Dirty South
More songs about tragic life and folklore of the South. A bit more amped up then Decoration Day
favorite tracks---who am i kidding? - there isn't a track i don't like, and i prefer to hear the album at full length.
- "Where the Devil Don't Stay" (Cooley)
- "Tornadoes" (Hood)
- "The Day John Henry Died" (Isbell)
- "Puttin' People on the Moon" (Hood)
- "Carl Perkin's Cadillac" (Cooley)
- "The Sands of Iwo Jima" (Hood)
- "Danko/Manuel" (Isbell)
- "The Boys From Alabama" (Hood)
- "Cottonseed" (Cooley)
- "The Buford Stick" (Hood)
- "Daddy's Cup" (Cooley)
- "Never Gonna Change" (Isbell)
- "Lookout Mountain" (Hood)
- "Goddamn Lonely Love" (Isbell)
