    Default Gutsville

This books is even stranger than I thought it would be. It manages to use the rather improbable idea of being swallowed by a whale to create microcosms of both ecology and society for readers to examine in good detail. Well thought out, creepy and just plain weird. Good stuff. There's a full review posted over there.

    Nice review Madbastard.
I especially like the extra content in the back of the book, the text story really shows that they've fully thought out the world of Gutsville.

My one complaint is that the story telling is unclear in the scene were Albert goes rat hunting, it took me forever just to get an idea of what was supposed to have happened.
Other than that it was a great read and the stuff with the aborigines and the reveal on the last page already promise more than I was expecting from a book I already had high hopes for.

I'm looking forward to reading this book very very much. Very interesting and unique idea.

The characters were strong and the implications of the ending leave me really interested in the next issue. I thought the dialog was a bit more impenetrable than it needed to be in places.

Read the first issue yesterday................very interesting. SPOILERS below for people who've not read it yet.

I liked the artist being forced to become a ratcatcher, a "useful" trade in the beast, and how the father had been mapping the tunnels inside and the possibility of a way out.

Some of the language invented for the story wasn't off putting but I did have to read some bits a couple of times to understand what was being said.

Very curious about the sub, and whether it was swallowed by the beast, or it rammed through the beast's side into it's guts, I couldn't tell which, but it means the introduction of new people either way which is interesting, plus people from the outside world many years on from those who live inside. The world will have changed significantly since they were swallowed.

Story in the back was fun too, nice extra stuff.

    Default Its a Shameville...

A little bit late....but, I was just reading on Spurrier and Irving's page that Gutsville is crawling along...there is a nice little tease there. But it is a shame that such a unique book is getting held up. I really enjoy it.

    Someday...
