It's not about being outshone, it's about the fact Alyson Hannigan puts business before her ego and didn't mind being part of an ensemble cast as long as she got paid well in the process, she didn't mind doing TV and movies equally since money is money. She worked herself ragged filming American Pie 2 and Buffy concurrently, only getting 2-3 hours sleep as she rushed between sets and set ups for each project. Gellar on the other hand apparently was difficult to work with for the last two seasons of Buffy and didn't even attend the wrap party because she was so convinced she was going to have a A list career as a serious actress and in the end her attitude didn't do her any favours.

lol yeah, kinda my point earlier. I don't get why Kelly revamped the show from its original premise. It was a bit implausible, sure, but still fun.
I have this idea for the next X-teme Games Gold Medal Event--Bear Tickling. Its like Bull riding but more X-treme! You are timed on how long you can tickle a bear before he attacks you.

I am sure she is happy to have the show cancelled and not have to work around her pregnancy really. She can likely return to a TV series when she wants.

Gellar kind of reminds me of Topher Grace, who also apparently didn't attend the wrap party for the show and just left.

I call bullshit on that assumption...what other network would that show have succeeded on? the CW maybe

like I said....FOX says yes, when most every other network says NO...a fair amount of shows would have never seen the light of day...Firefly among them

Yeah its not given of course it would survive on other networks but they are too quick to dump new shows. Finder kind of shows survive on smaller cable channels,CW,Showtime etc

Firefly is the worst example you could have used. A show they showed the eps out of order. Im not saying that because they were blind to see that show became cult hit and big DVD seller in europe.

well considering (if you look at the big 4 networks) there is a big disparity in primetime numbers....shows like NCIS, Castle, Hawaii Five-0 do 10+ million viewers weekly, while the only steady hit Fox has is American Idol...24 did OK, but thats gone now...Bones performs well for them, that is one of the shows they can rely on

sometimes things catch, and sometimes they don't....and most all networks are pretty quick to drop the ax if the show isn't performing....during the 90s, CBS had a ton of various sitcoms and comedies that were getting yanked after 4 or 6 episodes

I started out liking it. However, I got really confused about what message they were trying to send. Are they riffing on the shallowness of suburbia, or are gay people really evil monsters? Because most of the time, the main character ultimately admits that the shallow, homophobic suburban life is the way to be. And that rubs me really wrongly. And on a network like ABC, it seems really creepy. Like Stepford Wives creepy. It seems like the story of one girl's systematic indoctrination to a way of life I find sinister... and that's not something I want to watch.

So anyway, after quite a few episodes, I stopped watching and didn't look back.

TVGuide.com is reporting that CSI: Miami will be canceled.

SMG was away filming Scooby Doo 2 when the wrap party happened. I don't know that she could have been there if she wanted. What I did hear was that a lot of other cast members were happy to not have her there.

Firefly would have failed regardless. I love the show but straight up Sci Fi = dismal ratings. Seriously, name the last straight up Sci-Fi show to get even average ratings on TV - you would probably have to go back to Star Trek: The Next Generation and that was 20 years ago. The only networks Firefly might have succeeded on would have been the WB (called CW now) and Sci Fi because they expect putrid ratings. Some shows like Lost succeeded by hiding the fact they were sci fi but its ratings plummeted the more sci fi it got. And since then nearly every show thats tried to copy Lost in some way has failed (Terra Nova, Alcatraz, Invasion, Flash Forward, etc) Being a cult favorite means nothing. The new Battlestar Galactica was a critical and cult favorite and its ratings stunk to high heaven. It ended after four seasons because even Sci Fi with its extreme low expectations couldn't justify keeping it around given its putrid ratings so they told the showmakers that season four would be the last.

Genre TV, especially Sci Fi, will usually no longer succeed on network TV. Consider the current darling of Genre TV: Game of Thrones. Take its numbers and put it on a network channel and its cancelled midway through the first season. Supernatural and Vampire Diaries keep going because they are on the CW and their ratings are only good by comparison to other CW shows. Fringe survives because JJ Abrams apparently has dirty pictures of some Fox exec (Fringe is my favorite current show by the way so I'm not bashing, I'm just acknowledging that its baffling how its horrid ratings got it a 4th let alone a 5th season).

Its old news hit for cable its 3-4 million viewers, specially small time cable. Game of Thrones is viewers hit and critical hit. It is not 20 million kind hit channel.

SF is often on cable because you can survive on few million viewers. Supernatural,Vampires Diaries, Smallville is big hit for CW level.

There would only be CSI crap on tv if you only went after major network numbers. No other genre shows would survive.

Its old news what you are saying. SF is less popular on tv these days because of their quality. Its not Stargate, BSG,4400 days.
