    Default Ultimate Hardcovers

I switched to Hardcovers for the Ultimate line and got the last two Ultimate Spidey ones, the last Ultimate X-men one and the first two volumes of UFF (I also brought Ultimates Vol1 as well, had the singles, but hadn't been able to read them all at once as it took way too long to come out and I couldn't keep them together).
I think they look better, and are actually cheaper than buying singles or trades.
However at the shop the other day I saw a new Ultimate Spiderman HC, and also a HC collecting only six issues of the Clone Saga.
Will this be re-released in a 12 issue HC or is Marvel switching to six issue HC's?

Personally I'll be dissapointed if they switch to six issue HC's as it will make the HC's more expensive for me, and I'll have to switch back to trades, and probably end up dropping Ultimate Spiderman, as it's only by reading two storyllines in a row that I get the feeling that anything has happened in the title.
    I'm not you.
    So you know I'm right.

That HC actually collects all nine issues of the clone saga.

But no, it looks like that was only a one off, they haven't solicited any more. But I wouldn't take the HC collections of anything for granted until you see the solicited. I expect Marvel to produce one more HC of USM, so that they can say they collected the whle Bendis/Bagley run in that format, then perhaps reasses the economics on whether to do a volume 10 for Immonen.

All that having been said, if the Kirkman Ultimate X-Men run gets a big hardback, I'll be a bit disappointed if USM doesnt't.

They already have a clone saga volume 17 tpb and this is just a premier HC so Marvel is doing this for the extra cash but ya there will be a 12 issue HC if you wait long enough.

Someone from Marvel who posts on another board indicated that the Clone Saga Premiere Hardcover was just a one-time occurance to tie into the upcoming movie. There are plans to continue with the oversized hardcovers, so don't worry about it. Just skip the PHC and wait for the OHC. It will come eventually. :)

The Clone Saga is a nine issue arc. It has to be collected separately or the arc after it will be cut in half. Don't wait for any other hardcover since this will be it. The only other version will be a trade paperback.

TPTB at Marvel already said there would be an oversized HC that follows.

You do realize that the OHC's have been done in issue counts up to 18, right? Such as Runaways.

    Ultimate Spider-Man Vol. 9 will include USM #97 - #105 (Clone Saga) and USM #106 - #110 (Ult. Knights).

That's only 14 issues. Where most of the Hardcovers typically have at least 12. Typically more.

    Thanks for the info guys.

I'll wait it out, and if it never comes, the Marvel Premiere editions seem to have a pretty long shelf life at the shop I go to, I don't think too many are keen on them.

I wouldn't take that for granted with the Marvel one's - they seem a little more willing to drop it down to ten and not have any extras, but charge the same price (Waid's FF run for instance).

Now if the next Punisher MAX would just come out soon...

I can't imagine why people don't want to pay extra for a hardcover with the exact same binding as a paperback.

I didnt want to get into the Ultimate marvel books until I saw Ultimate Xmen collection on CDROM for 10 bucks at Best Buy. I bought it and read three years of comics in a few days. As odd as it might sound, I feel in love with the Ultimate universe because of X-men lol. Anyway, I figured I would just buy all the TPB for the Ultimate Spider-man series. I bought about 5 when I figured "Why not just order them all in one shot" (I have money to burn, so what) so I went on to Amazon.ca and looked at the price. I was surprised when I saw the price of the Hardcover books on Amazon.

Then I calculated this and wrote it out (I presented it to my GF like this so she would see the savings and forget that I was spending so much on comics lol).

These are all Canadian Prices btw. I actually ended up ordering them from Amazon.com. Because of the conversion I actually save a whole bunch more on the Hardcovers(well like 5 bucks each).

We're talking about two different things here. The hardbacks you describe each comprise two previously-released paperbacks, and are larger in format (and, as you point out, cheaper in price). Larger format + cheaper price = great! I love 'em, and am in the process of acquiring a complete collection of the Ultimate Spider-Man series.

However, the Marvel Premiere Edition hardbacks (which includes the Ultimate Clone War hardback) are not the same thing. They're the same size as Marvel's trade paperbacks and typically come out prior to the trade paperback version of the same book. Same format + higher price = not so great. The main incentive to buy these is that, when they're released, they're the only version of the story available (since the paperback hasn't been released yet).

Both types of hardback, unfortunately, have the same glued (not sewn) binding as trade paperbacks, but in the larger format, at least it's somewhat excuseable, since you're getting a better price (and larger page size) than you would if you bought the equivalent paperbacks.

The above message is utter gibberish.

Since the clone saga is only nine issues, and the following arc (Ultimate Knights) is five, the subsequent HC would only be 14 issues.

Ultimate Spider-Man HC volume 5 was actually 15 issues, including two extra sized ones, so I'm pretty sure Marvel can cope with that.

It's a bit late, but as a fellow Canadian I felt I should tell you that Marvel's HCs (and TPBs) are even cheaper via Chapters Indigo online.

First they convert from US cover price to CAD equivalent, then they apply discounts, so most Marvel books end up being around half of the Canadian cover price, and it just gets better if you have their iRewards card. Plus you get free shipping over $39, which is pretty easy to make up.

    As an example:

Ultimate Spider-Man HC Vols. 1 through 8 are all 23.06 CAD each, 21.91 with iRewards.

Total cost of all 8 with GST: 195.55 without the extra iRewards discount, 185.80 with.

If your Amazon.com order hasn't already shipped, you might want to consider cancelling it and re-ordering via Chapters.

If it has, you still got a pretty good deal, as Amazon.com ships from Missisauga but doesn't charge tax, so you won't pay any GST or Customs duties.

And if you ever want to get any more HCs, now you know where to find them nice and cheap with free Canadian shipping.

I also bought USM in hardcovers, it's cheap, they look very good and don't get so easily destroyed like TPBs do.

I only like to collect Hardcovers, and to answer the question there already is a Ultimate Spider-man #9 Hardcover collecting the Clone Saga and Ultimate Knights.

And there has already been one Kirkman Hardcover for X-men.
Looking for artists, know I won't find any. That blows.
