Default VT and a Manga Connection?!?

    http://thelede.blogs.nytimes.com/200...virginia-tech/

It references a movie called "Oldboy." That's not the same "Old Boy" that Dark Horse has been publishing for the last few months, is it? Looks like a cool book, though I haven't cracked it open yet.

In unrelated news: The NY Times has a blog?!? Wow, welcome to 2007. What a wild time to be alive.

It is the same. I've seen the movie and have been reading the manga. Does that make me a ticking time bomb? Both are pretty decent, although I don't know if I would heap the praise on the movie that I've seen other places.

It's the same story. I forget which inspired which, though. I can see why it would appeal to a paranoid schizophrenic. As my friend who showed me the movie described it, it is the Ultimate Revenge Story. I haven't read the manga, but the movie was pretty cool.

I have to say, though, this doesn't seem to have quite as deep a manga connection, as, say, the infamous "otaku murderer," Tsutomi Miyazaki.

(warning: kinda disturbing -- Miyazaki, like Cho, was a sick, sick man)

Yup! Augie - this is one of the reasons why I mentioned in the recent podcast that I wanna read that series!

I've heard nothing but good things about the movie and will find a way to watch that soon enough!

    Here's the manga's wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Boy_%28manga%29

    Apparently the manga came 1st:

In 2003 it was adapted into the award winning Korean film Oldboy by South Korean director Park Chan-wook. The film was a huge international success and went on to win various awards including the prestigious Grand Prix of the Jury at the 57th Cannes Film Festival awards ceremony.
