the store cred thing is okay, not great, but it's something. not like I can go to the same deli every day and one day they'll eventually give me a free lunch or anything. ;)
btw, your 'number' is your numerical birthday, and the 100 bucks is for comics only. no trades, dvd's, etc...

I always thought it was a pretty good deal, but that's probably because I didn't know about the $20 thing until after I'd spent $100 and suddenly had credit.

You sure about that? I only go there to buy trades now (get my comics online) and I'm pretty sure I've gotten it counted toward my credit.

the only trades I definitely got no credit on were the discounted ones they have by the manga section.

As for the system itself, its no big deal, but it is a nice surprise every now and then. "Oh hey, I got some credit, let me get an extra trade."

Really?Once he told me he got comics for free, and afterword for a time any comics he bought, the credit was used toward that purchase.Example, you buy some comics..the total is $21.65.Using credit, the total becomes 7.25.The credit was more than $20,from what he told me.

Jeez, even if the credit is "only" $20, I would have saved literally hundreds of dollars over the past year if my store was anything like that one.

I came here to mention Rocketship. I recently moved very close to the shop, and the effect on my wallet has been... interesting.

    Really a fantastic shop.

He wasn't doing the math right. Prior to that purchase, he had $92.75 built up in the computer. Spending $7.25 would get him up to $100, so they just applied his new credit to the rest ($14.40). And he had $5.60 left over for the next purchase.

sorry, not so sure about that. but what you said sounds right. I think I meant old trades and/or books something like that. I know I havem't really paid much attention, but the things I did ask about came to something about some items not applying towards your credit.

Jeez, Louise! I've been going to NYC on business for three years, and staying at 25th and 7th, and I've totally missed this place.

    Thanks for the comprehensive list.

One place I haven't seen listed is on 8th, near Sixth Avenue (between 6th and 5th, on the second floor, on the north side of the street). There's no visible sign, but there are superhero posters in the window. The business card I got says "Silver Age Comics" but they're listed in the Diamond database as "Sleep of Reason Comics". Anyway, it's a small shop but they have a good selection of back issues and are very helpful. The last two times I've been there, the whole back issue selection has been 50% off. They also have a location out in Queens.

Midtown does count trades towards your credit - just not DVDs, CDs, prose books, toys or apparel.

You also can only apply the credit to comics and trades (i think - i know i wasn't able to apply it to DVD-roms).

Another NYC comics thing I like is going to the Housing Works Bookstore, where donated comics are $0.50. I've found some real beauts browsing their bargain bin, including an issue of Kamandi from 1974!

(I actually think they might have raised the comics bin to $1.00, but still )

I know that place, I dont remember enjoying it.

I think it might have been because they dont have any new releases, which is dumb. COmic shops that are on the opposite extreme (only new books, no trades, no back issues) are stupid as well, theres a place like that in queens on Austin Street.

The place I'm thinking about has new releases. When I was in there last month, they had a new Buddy Bradley book that Amazon won't have until May 15th.

Cosmic Comics on 23rd Street does that too. It's a nice enough store and has a better indie/alternative selection then Midtown. Not as good as Rocketship though.

I generally go to whatever store is on my way to work. Right now it's Another Univers on 33rd Street. Rocketship is really nice though. It's just really far from me (I live in Queens). If I ever move back to Brooklyn I'd go there more.

Cosmic Comics also has a small shop out in Oceanside, Long Island, I believe that's where it started. Haven't been to Rocketship though it looks cool and I no longer live in Brooklyn, so that sucks. And haven't really been to most of the other shops mentioned here.
