Default Eric Holmes Turns To The Dark Side In "Megatron Origin"

This May, writer Eric Holmes and IDW bring Transformers fans the origin of that most evil of evil robots -- Megatron. CBR News talked to Holmes about the mini-series, and why some fans may find it controversial.

"The ancient secret of who wins in a comic book match-up. Just look and see in whose series the fight is appearing in - that's always who wins!"laughed Holmes.
Not 100% true -Deadpool and Wolverine's fights in Wolverine #88 and Deadpool #27 ended with Wolverine coughing up blood on the floor in W88, and him trashing DP in DP27 :)

This could be good. I'll reserve judgement till I read it.

But I am SICK AND TIRED of writers turning villains into anti-heroes. It's become cliched and boring. It isn't original, it's just tired.

And as for claiming that "no one ever sets out to be bad, no one sees themselves as evil" - BOLLOCKS! Most bad and evil people are well aware that what they're doing is wrong. They just don't care.

Writers who believe that it is not possible to make a pure evil character interesting, simply display their own lack of imagination. The Joker is #1 for a reason.

Sorry for the rant. Pet peeve of mine.

I know this might be hard to here but The Joker is insane and he has a hard luck back story. Ever heard of a little book called "The killing Joke".

Yeah, I agree with him on villains they need a back story otherwise they're just cookie cutter. A good back story can put you on a journey where villians grow from being relatable to cracked, unclean and corruptive beasts of destruction. That to me is always a good time.
Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

    Sometimes - sometimes - a person is just - plain - EVIL.

And Killing Joke isn't Joker's origin.

You mean the one where Joker shoots an unarmed woman through the spine, strips her naked, and takes photos while she's lying there bleeding to death? Yeah, I've heard of it.

Even though the story gives Joker something of a hard-luck background, it doesn't even attempt to make him sympathetic by making him less evil. It doesn't try to make him into a noble or honourable anti-hero. Joker remains as psychotic as ever.

This series sounds great! I like my villains to be more than the one-dimensional evil "I want to rule the world" bad guy. To learn their true motivations for power, and what led to those motivations adds believability to the villains character. It just not enough for Megatron to be evil because he just wants to. Perhaps that was ok when I was 8, but now I want more.

The promise of the Star Wars prequels was to learn why Vader was such as bad ass. Unfortunately, that stories payoff was not good, nor was the Hannibal Lector "origin" story, but I have high hopes for Eric's story. I can not wait for this comic to come out!

It sounds interesting. Megs sounds more like a disgruntled worker who gets fed up and goes ape-shit. While that is certainly not traditional heroic behavior, I'm sure lots of people who bust their asses working hard jobs who are always getting shafted, can relate. In that context yeah, I can see Megs being an "anti-hero" and not necessarily a "good guy". I guess that's why certain people like myself find villains more interesting because in many ways they are more relatable and realistic.

If any of us had superpowers.. would we bust our ass on our day job and then wreck our bodies, sanity, and relationships to help people who would probably never lift a hand to save us, much less just say a kind word to us? I'm not saying any of us would try to take on the world, but you can't tell me that there isn't a good percentage of people here who wouldn't use those powers to somehow benefit or improve their own life, even if they did help others. Would that make them or you, Evil?

Sometimes good and evil is simply a matter of perspective. I'm constantly viewed as being quite villainous for standing up for what I think is right, simply because it causes trouble and disagrees with the views of whom is most popular in a given situation.

And Megs is my hero. ;)

The IDW stuff is really good right now and ues Evil has an origin story always will do this is the origin of the Decepticons somthing I as a big TF fan am looking forward to. No one's ever done how Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave, Shockwave etc all formed this huge army and started a civil war and it be intresting to see that.
