    Default Legion of Superheroes

Okay, Tony... Didio and Waid spilled the beans at WizardWorld LA, so what can you tell us? Will this be a continuation of Waid & Kitson's stories, or are we getting something new? Who's the artist (Calfiore?)? How long are you going to be on? Will Dawnstar be back? (You still owe me for Justice not joining the Exiles during World Tour ;) )

Man, it's a good time to be a fan of yours and DC.

    I'm never right about speculation...

I can't say I'm familiar with Tony Bedard's work, but I'm looking forward to seeing what he can bring to the title, which is (as is obvious from my sig) my favourite comic book. Welcome aboard.

Kudos to DC, they picked one of a small handful of people to keep me on the book after Waid leaves.

Actually, Matthew, you kind of are already.;) He co-wrote issues 21-22 with Mark Waid. I've heard that his "Exiles"(Marvel) book was pretty good. My first experience with his writing(and the reason I want to see him write Legion) was the Crossgen "Negation" series.

He handled a large cast of diverse characters in a sci-fi space opera that was vastly superior to most books coming out at that time, or since. If you get a chance to read it, I don't believe you'll be disappointed. The only thing that could make this better would be if his collaborating artist, Paul Pelletier, was drawing.

Incidentally, Mark Waid co-wrote the first two issues of "Negation" with him...talk about coming around full circle.

I remember that, but I figured since I couldn't isolate Waid's contributions from Bedard's, it didn't make me any more familiar with his stuff. Anyway, everything I've heard has been good, so at the moment I have no trepidation at all.

    Tony,

Congrats on getting one of your dream gigs. Hopefully you can parlay it into a longer run. if it helps, I'm going to add your first issue of LSH onto my pull to give it another pre-sale. I've been buying it off the shelf for a while.

Thanks, folks! I'm very excited about this, and I only hope I don't let down everyone.

LEGION fans can be a very ardent bunch, though I think there are several subsets of Legion fanhood and they all seem to be at each other's throats! Each incarnation has its own set of fans, and many feel that their's is the only true Legion. So I'll proceed with my story and do my best to avoid posting about it...except for here!

    It's okay Mr. Bedard.

Just make sure Saturn Girl is the clear prime mover and shaker in the Legion and you'll be just fine. :D

    Congrats on the gig.

The best rule I've seen about this is that your first exposure to the Legion is your favorite.

If you started reading the 5yL stuff, there you go. If you started reading the DnA stuff, there you go. I read the post ZH stuff first and that's my truest love when it comes to the Legion, though I have gone back to a year or two before the Levitz run began and read everything following.

Unless you are cherry picking from every era in a Legion Forever type series(which wouldn't be the worst thing in the world), you're right in that you can't please everyone.

But if you write a great story, people will read it, regardless of the take or the version. It's pretty much that simple. And there are certainly common themes that run through almost every take, but you know that. You're a fan.

So I'm looking forward to it.

Some Legion fans are annoying me very much at the moment with that attitude. They don't understand that all versions of the Legion are true versions. But there are some of us out there who are looking forward to your work and just want to see you cut loose with some good comics.

    Great news.

I was worried when I heard Waid was leaving, but I'm not worried anymore.

If looking for inspiration, might I suggest checking out this story, by the greatest of Legion writers?
