Default Lousy Production Values of Stapled Books

    Dang nab it!

I am SO tired of having my Marvel comic books loose the centerfold because the lower stapple rips through the paper.

You can HEAR it happen as you flip through the book reading, and spread the pages.

Why can't MARVEL insist that the printer use a higher quality paper or stapple?

Does this current trend mean there will be high demand for books that do NOT have a missing centerfold page? Or one who's stapple has NOT YET ripped free? I hope not. That would make grading of books even more confusing!

I would pay a slight bit more or even tolerate those stupid cards stappled into the book, if only they would appear in the centerfold under the stapple and act to strengthen the book!

    MARVEL, ARE YOU LISTENING????!!!!

Honestly... I think you're just rough on your books.

I've been back into comics big time since Reloaded a few years ago. And currently get about 25-30 books a month right now. Out of all those books, I've had this problem just once. So yeah, if it's a regular thing for you... I'd say it's more your fault than Marvel's. Or you have the worst luck of any one alive.

Yeah, I don't have this problem either. It may be that I never actually open my books all the way flat, or because I get mine from a comic shop that ships them and maybe they weed out the weak ones, but it hasn't been a problem for me.

Like Beast said, maybe you're just too rough on them. I even managed to get that annoying card thing out of mine without causing any damage to them.

I don't think Kirk's being too hard on his books as I've seen this happen to me on some books that I bought in the comic shops.

I guess it depends on the batch, some badly put together comics make it to the racks and sometimes you don't see it until you flip through the comic at home or something. There's also a problem with comics having weird yellow/red dots over the artwork from what I can only imagine it being from a printing error.

Maybe you're just rough on your books also?

But seriously, this isn't the first time he's complained about this.

It's happening way more than it logically should. In all honestly.

Hmm, I guess I haven't been noticing his problems with the books. I mean, flipping through them is so easy, even a caveman can do it.

Marvel has no quality control. I have to go page by page looking for creases or scratches.

It's happened to me a few times recently as well...while doing nothing more than turning pages.

I agree that those stupid cards are extremely annoying.

Plus I hate when some pages stick together cause of the ink. It seems that the physical quality of Marvel books has dropped...especially new TPBs.

As far as the quality of the printed product, I think it's more a Quebecor issue than a Marvel issue.

He DOES read his books in his skivvies, however. Maybe that has something to do with it? ;)

I've been complaining about this as well, and I not hard on my books at all. I spend good money on them, and therefore would not abuse them.

anyone notice that sometimes the paper get all wrinkly at the top of the page, as if the moisture in the air is affecting it.

also, anyone have this problem, but live in canada? Is there a seperate printer here in canada for the canadian batches of books?

Well, if this is a printer problem, then why doesn't Marvel INSIST that the printer use a quality paper?

I know, if we all take our damaged books back to our LCBS and demand that they return them for credit, the backlog is going to create such a stink that Marvel is going to HAVE to address the problem.

Now, it'll ruffle some feathers, and put alot of people out...and we might not get all our comics back, creating a gap in our collection... but damn it, this is not right!

I just returned my copy of Thunderbolts #111 and pointed out the printing error streak on the 18th page... and the clerk accepted it...trading me for his own copy of the book. But that issue ALSO had the stapple pulling out problem, and so, I hope the word is going to get back to the distributor since they shorted my LCBS some 5 copies for pull customers as well!

WE DON"T HAVE TO PUT UP WITH POOR PRINTING PRODUCTION! RISE! REVOLT! THROW OFF YOUR CHAINS! DEMAND A COMPLETE BOOK FOR TOP DOLLAR PRICES!

(Either that, or start hording perfect copies of the latest books, cause there's going to be a hell of a shortage of mint books in the collectors market, suddenly!)
