    Why is he doing sketches of Gert? Why is he doing sketches of Alex? When does this come out? So many questions, so much excitement.

    Ramos is working on the Runaways Saga; a one-shot that serves a "The Story thus Far..." for potential new readers coming on-board for Whedon. I believe it was solicited in last month's Previews, so it should be out in March?

    P.S. Augie's sound effect is pretty much what it sounded like when I read the solicitation to her. :p

    Damn, then I'm less excited about it. I don't need to pay to read a recap of issues I already own. Now, if he was doing a regular arc of the book with Whedon, then we'd really have something.

    I'm curious to read Whedon's Punisher as listed in the new Marvel solicits. Will he borrow Ennis' version or Fraction's, or a completly new version all his own?

    I agree. *less excited* I don't like when companies put out these money-traps instead of using the talent to show their appreciation to all the fans who don't need a re-cap.

    MGS and Goman==>
    I believe the Ramos pages will be an untold tale, to entice you long-time fans, but the bulk of the book is recap for us johnny-come-latelies.

    Once it comes out, I'll post how long the Ramos story is, if anyone here wants to pick it up, but I haven't seen anything that sates whether it is just a standard 8-page backup, a full length 22 pages, or something in-between. Either way, if it is Ramos, I'm grabbing it.

    MGS==>
    I don't think it is fair to call this a money-trap. I have not been reading Runaways, but intend to pick up for Whedon. This book will (hopefully) further my enjoyment of what is to come, and may entice other people who have never tried the book before to give it a shot. For long-time fans it may not be your thing, but for me, it is incredibly welcome. One man's trash, another man's treasure...

    Can you believe that I don't read Runaways? I really want to, but I just couldn't get into the digests and I generally don't purchase Hardcovers unless it's a book that I really, really love and anticipate reading many times again (i.e. Invincible, Queen & Country, The Walking Dead & Ultimate Spider-Man). I really wish that Marvel would put out a normal sized TPB for this series.

    If you don't buy HC's for price reasons, the Runaways one is very good value - $35 for 18 issues ($23.09 on Amazon).

    It's actually not the price. I tend to use the HC format for books that I read in floppy format but enjoy enough that I'd prefer to have something solid sitting on my bookshelf that I can easily reach without having to grab the singles from storage. As I've never read an issue of Runaways and don't want to spend a lot of money tracking down the single issues, a HC is not in the cards for me. I was accidentally shipped a couple of digests from DCBS last year and flipped through them before returning. The art was nice, but the colors in the digests looked a little dark and muddy. At the time, I wondered if the format wasn't the cause for these issues, but I don't know, as there is no TPB to compare it to.

    It's a drawback of the paper/ink/etc they use for the digest format. The hardcovers are awesome. I pick up the digests as they come out, partially out of wanting to see what happens next, but initially mainly due to paranoia that they'd not collect them otherwise, or only do the one hardcover. I have a very strong preference for trades over issues. (It goes on a shelf!) Now I keep up with the digests so I can get the latest chapter, and then when I get the HC, I gift the digests to a friend of mine who's fallen in love with the series.

    The digest quality is getting better, FYI...

    why not fair? i call it what it is, we all know comics don't pick up that many 'new' fans along the way, but they get kudos for completely redux artwork by ramos. which, I'm not sure he can pull off on this book as I like his style on dark and creepy books most (revelations, dv8) even tho, runaways has it's dark moments. and somehow taki was able to make this book awesome. anyways, sorry, off point, but i don't think it'll be trash, I may even get it if it looks good enough, but instead of acutally using ramos for something good on the book, they're gonna use him for something that is the equivalent to quickly hashed, 'best of' type shows on tv sitcoms? I still think they should save the paper and our money and produce something that we all want.

    I have to disagree with the "we all know comics don't pick up that many 'new' fans along the way". Is the comics industry attracting new readers? Sadly, I'd say no. Do individual books attract new fans, particularly during times of creator change-overs? Yes. We wouldn't even be talking about this book right now if it weren't. Besdies, if nothing else, Marvel and DC have to operate under the hope that the answer is yes. Again, I completely understand if you're not crazy about this, because for long-time Runaways fans, this may not be a big deal. But Whedon fans (like me) might appreciate it.

    As for the art digression, I loved Ramos's Out There, so I think this might be a good fit. Pity he's not on the monthly though. Then I would be really excited for the change, rather than cautiously optimistic.

    To follow up on my previous post about never having read Runways, I'm happy to report that I borrowed the first 3 digests from my local library last night. I've got a ton of other stuff on my reading pile right now but I'm looking forward to starting Volume 1 this weekend.
