    Default Y or Fables

Ok I'm 4 trades into Y which is an awesome read. And about 6 trades into Fables.

So I was wondering which you peoples found better? Which plot twists you liked? Characters you found interesting.

Personally I like Fables, it's one of the few stories in which I found myself actually cheering on the love story instead of wishing it were out of the way so the action could take place. I love the characters, every single one. Whereas in Y I find some of the characters can get annoying. I also think the plot twists in Fables are a lot better. The adversory twist, was sweeettt..

I know Y is only 70 issues long and I'm at like 23. I was wondering if Fables also has a set amount of issues. It seems like it the way they kill of characters.

I gave up on Fables after the first three trades. Y is a title that I enjoy month in and month out, even though I wasn't the hugest fan of Girl on Girl.

So for me it's Y, hands down.

Same here, except I only gave Fables two trades. Y is great stuff, although I believe it'll be ending with #60 as opposed to 70.

I'll go with Fables. I love Y, but not as much.

I love them both. They are very different comics, one has ironoc and sardonic take on Fables and the other is about the differences of the sexes(and alot of other things). They are both well told stories with characters that you can identify with and root for.

The first 40 or so issues of Y are brilliantly paced and use suspense as well as any fiction I've ever encountered. The last dozen or so have definitely lost steam and even direction to some extent. They are enjoyable, but not as satisfying as I would have expected.

The first dozen or maybe even 20 issues of Fables floundered around, but those since have been gold. Great characters, creative ideas, and compelling pot direction (and finding a clear direction is what brought the series together for me).

A year or two ago, I would have said Y for sure, but now I'm leaning towards Fables. Right now, it is definitely the better series. Perhaps Y's conclusion will win me over, but based on the last several issues, I'm doubting it.

    Fables.

Y is a good story, but I find it's a read-once. I suspect once it's done, I will reread it in the whole again, then get rid of it. Fables going to end up like Transmet on my shelves, something that I go back to again and again.

What makes the difference to me is that Y is a single story, whereas Fables is many intertwined stories. Also the dialogue and the art; i think Mark Buckingham is seriously underrecognized for his amazing work.

That being said, Jack of Fables is rapidly overtaking Fables as my favourite comicbook.

Oh, and Willingham has said that he has no plans to end Fables.

    Fables - no contest.

Y is okay, but it's not one of Vaughan's best books.

Fables on the other hand I love. There's so much more going on in there with much more interesting characters.

Definitely Fables. For my money, it's the best ongoing that DC produces, and it is as interesting at issue 57 as at any other time during its acclaimed run. That's stiking in this day and age, but I think it speaks to the strength of the concept and the skills of Willingham, Buckingham, and their various other collaborators.

Y is good, but like a lot of other posters, I think it's been limping to its conclusion. To be frank, I'm surprised that they even got two years of stories out of Yorick Brown, last male dumbass on Earth, let alone five. I also find it doesn't reread as well, as the story is pretty barebones and the various reveals and cliffhangers don't resonate as much the second time. That could just be me, though.

I like sci-fi better than fantasy so Y is my favorite of the two.

Though they are very different books I notice that most people who dig one usually dig the other. Now I'm thinking about what sort of similarities the two books share. I guess they both have similar coloring and panel rate. Both are based on concepts that are appealling to women. Hm, what else?

I agree with this, Y had a fantastic start, but I wasn't too impressed with the last two trades, as enjoyable as they were.

Fables on the other hand, after a bit of a disjointed start, really came together after the fourth and fifth trade.

If you asked this question at the end of the each series' respective first arcs, I would have easily given the nod to Y. Now though, I much prefer Fables. I like Y but Fables is the best comic I'm reading.
