    Default Hidden Tracks...

So, I was driving home tonight listening to the new Klaxons album at the end of song 11 there's a 15 minute pause (WAAAAAY too long) and some real crap came out at the end of the song for like 30 seconds.

Which got me thinking, what are your favourite tracks on hidden albums...

For me it's probably the track at the end of Youth and Young Manhood by the Kings of Leon - one of the few examples I can think of of a hidden track that is actually as good (if not better!) than the rest of the album...

Other than maybe The Clash's "Train In Vain" hidden tracks are usually a waste of time. And The Clash's is really a hidden track, in the sense of hidden tracks. They just decided to put the song on London Calling but the artwork had already been printed.
That said, I like Cracker's "Euro-Trash Girl," the 69th song on Kerosene Hat
    Tracks 13 and 14, 16 to 68, 70 to 87 and 89 to 98 are hidden/blank tracks with a few seconds of silence.
Come to think of it, there's The Afghan Whigs' "Miles Is Dead" a hidden track off of Congregation which may be one of their best songs.

I generally don't like hidden tracks, or bonus remixes for that matter. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I want the album to stop playing when the songs are over. The first Gorillaz CD has a remix at the end, and the only practical result is that the mp3 I ripped of the last track is ten minutes long.

I think it's on the Dead Milkmen's Metaphysical Graffiti, that there's a completely unidentified track, which I always loved. I still don't know what it's called.

My favorite hidden track is the last song on Throwing Copper by Live.

I've heard people call it "Horse" but I don't know if it has an official name.

I didn't even know there was a hidden track at the end of Throwing Copper. I thought it was just untitled.

Anyway, my favorite (in fact the only hidden track I don't just skip) is "Pieces" on Anthrax's CD Volume 8: The Threat is Real. It's a ballad sung by Frankie Bello as a tribute to his dead cousin.

Most "hidden tracks" are really just unlisted tracks. So I guess my favourite hidden tracks would be the ones on the X-Files inspired CD "Songs in the Key of X", not because of their quality, but due to the fact they're truly "hidden". You have to actively find them by rewinding the first song to negative nine minutes. I thought that was pretty cool.

That weird fan letter from Josh Homme to Mastodon at the end of Pendulous Skin.

I too think hidden tracks are a waste of time, don't get me wrong, if there's an extra TRACK after the last song, like track 11 of 10, that's awesome, these songs are rare jewels, but when there's an extra song in the same track of the last song, and you have to wait like 10 minutes to hear it, i think it's inexcusable and dumb.

I meant to add that in my previous post.

Any one where you have to wait ten or fifteen minutes for pisses me off no end.

    That was a good one.

I also like on the Megadeth greatest hits album, Capitol Punishment, if you wait a few minutes after Peace Sells finishes, you get a weirdly mixed medley of classic Megadeth songs with trippy effects.

In the latest (last?) Blur album "Think Tank", there is a track hidden before track 1. You have to rewind to find it.

I, Robot by Coheed and Cambria on Second Stage Turbine Blade.
There's a long pause (obviously) and then that kicks in, it's so sweet.
2113 on In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 is hidden, but not really hidden (there's A lot of nothing tracks before it) and it's a 9 minute plus piece.

A smart one is with The Music, the Walls Get Smaller. One on of their singles, you have to rewind the track to get to the hidden track.
And the song starts slow and builds to a climax.

There are some others, but they don't stand out.

There's one on the UNKLE album Psyence Fiction as well, although it's just snippets of their samples and influences in making the album. What drove me nuts for months was that the first I played the CD, the hidden track actually played before the first track. When I played it again, the hidden track didn't play. I thought I'd imagined the whole thing until I realised what the track was.

On a sidenote, is it possible to rip these type of hidden tracks to digital audio files?

Tool has also had some weird tracks. There is one about carrots on Undertow. Then there is one on Salival.

It seems like there is one on Opiate also...
