    Cool

September is a quiet month for Heroic Publishing. here is one book that stands out:

WitchGirls Inc. #7 (This book reprints the classic story from 1993's Rose #1! If you missed it in 1993, you can buy this book to enjoy!

And news to theValeyard: Liberty Comics #2 is now availiable from www.heroicpub.com !

I tried to get into Heroic Publishing, but their publishing schedule was too sporadic. They also failed to capitalize on the few successes they had (LIBERTY GIRL) by over expanding the line. They'd have to have a clean track record for awhile before I would try them again. It would also have to cost less than $5 for a standard issue.

I hope that Heroic can get its act together enough to finally be able to publish LIBERTY GIRL #4-5 since I know how important it is to Mark Sparacio to tell that story.

That is a good point: Heoic Publishing had taken the entire year of 2008 off so that they can try to find some marketing for Flare: They managed to get a deal to launch a Flare Sunday newspaper comic strip that premiered last November (The silly part of this deal is the syndicate that is distributing the strip was Creators Syndicate, which was originally designed for crator-driven work but is notorius for also distributing chessy licensed fare like a really grating Pokemon strip: http://www.platypuscomix.net/otherpe...emonstrip.html ! You can take a look at the Flare strip at: www.creators.com/comics/flare.html ! For some odd reason, Heroic is offering a collection of 44 different installments of the strip in this year's "Flare Annual", which can be ordered here: www.heroicpub.com/previews/fz02.php ! Forsome odd reason, Heroic also like to jam these Sunday pages in as filler for various issues of their titles. Examples: www.heroicpub.com/previews/ch42.php www.heroicpub.com/previews/ch43.php www.heroicpub.com/previews/ch44.php and www.heroicpub.com/previews/fa24.php ). They are also doing a Flare radio show for the Kaleidascope Radio Network, & a Flare card game! On the other, Liberty Girl only managed a COFEE MUG!

There are some launches that happened after the 2006 debut of Liberty Girl: All-Girl Hero League (FA #17), Naomi Battle Squirrel (FA #19), Liberty Comics (2007), the relauch of Sparkplug's solo mag (March), & Heather Reilly (April). Are they the over-extending you are talking about?

I have a question: Which books/features would you like to see get cancelled?

Liberty Girl will appear next in October in the pages of BOTH 'Heroic Spotlight' #1 (An actual preview of Liberty Girl #4!) & 'Liberty Comics' #3! Liberty Girl #4 & #5 will be coming in 2010!

And that's part of the problem. LIBERTY GIRL was selling better than the Flare titles, but much more focus is put on Flare, rather than trying to capitalize off of the early success of LIBERTY GIRL (and also ANTHEM).

Your point about the various places the FLARE strip is reprinted is another tremendous issue I have with Heroic. They reprint material so frequently, you end up having the same material multiple times because the reprints are almost always mixed with new material.

Those are some of the launches I'm referring to. G-GIRL (which is a disgusting looking book about a 15 year old drawn intentionally overly sexually), FANTASTIC GIRL, etc. are some of the others. Rather than taking a few core titles and slowly building an audience for each before expanding, Heroic has a tendency to put out a couple issues a YEAR of many titles, the sporadic publishing making it difficult to build an audience.
I would cancel WITCHGIRLS, INC. and FLARE ADVENTURES for starters. What's the point of having one issue of WITCHGIRLS, INC.? Especially when it sells so poorly. Why not just put them in a stronger title like CHAMPIONS for a Halloween issue in October?

In my opinion, Heroic should publish LIBERTY GIRL, ANTHEM, FLARE and CHAMPIONS consistently (as in monthly or bi-monthly) for at least a year and then and only then expand as appropriate based on any successes. Each title can have a backup feature. LIBERTY GIRL can have an LG in the '50s story. ANTHEM can have solo stories of its characters. FLARE can have Sparkplug. CHAMPIONS can have spotlight adventures of other Heroic characters.

Heroic CLAIMS LG #4-5 will be coming in 2010, but they've been promising those issues for YEARS. And I can tell you for a fact that Mark Sparacio hasn't done any additional work on them in almost as long. The preview that will be in Spotlight was the same one they had up on the site for over a year. It's just colored now.

I've been looking forward to Aiken's and Cermak's Liberty Girl story for sometime. Too bad it's $7-8 with shipping. I'll check it out on WOWIO though.

You can also get Heroic Publishing books from Drive-Thru Comics, which also has the great Revolution of the Mask: http://atopfourthwall.blogspot.com/2...available.html

There are rumors about the demise of WitchGirls Inc.!

    The series will continue!

Deember's issue #8 is another all-reprint issue that continues the reprinting of 'Dark Passion', & reprints the story from the final issue of Lady Arcane!

March's issue #9 will reprint the end of 'Dark Passion', but the real excitement is the all-new story that begins 'The Quest For Lady Arcane', which will be a crossover event that will be taking place in both WitchGirls Inc. & Flare!

June's issue #10 will be ALL NEW NO REPRINT!

    There were rumors?

This crossover should be the last opportunity for WITCHGIRLS, INC. to carry its own title. If an x-over with FLARE doesn't bring it a healthy number of readers that should be it for the foreseeable future.

Frankly, with Drive-Thru Comics, WOWIO, print to order, trades, etc., Heroic needs to do away with all the reprint material in its new issues and consolidate its line down to fit only new material.

Here is the checklist for the Quest For Lady Arcane crossover

    June 2010:
    Part 1: WitchGirls, Inc. #10

    July 2010:
    Part 3: Lady Arcane #5
    August 2010
    Part 4: Flare #41
    Part 5: Heroic Spotlight #3
    September 2010:
    Part 6: Flare #42
    Part 7: Black Enchantress #5
    Part 8: WitchGirls Inc. #11
