Default Iron Wok Jan recipe corner

I've searched over the anime/manga section a couple of times, but never saw a thread devoted to Iron Wok Jan. Specifically, I wanted to see if anyone ever tried cooking things based on Iron Wok Jan recipes or ideas. I have since I love to cook and I've been pleased with the results.

    Things I've done:

Shredded carrot salad marinated in sesame oil and white vinegar. Very simple and refreshing. Don't remember which volume this one was from.

Kiriko's chicken meat skin spring roll. From the Spring Roll Fair storyline. This worked out great. You pound the chicken as flat as possible dredged with corn starch, and use it to wrap ground shrimp meat. Then you deep fry it.

Karin Karii's Super Pudding - Worked just as advertised. Sponge cake on top, and pudding on the bottom.

Anyone else brave enough to try?

    Default Iron wok jan recipes

I really want to try them - I just made fried rice sorta like Koriko's golden fried rice, but I wasn't actually referencing the book itself.

I would like to try to cook:
    • Koriko's Golden Fried Rice
    • Jan's Tofu Fried Rice
    • Koriko's radish flowers (not really a dish but still)
    • Scalion and Ginger Congee

There are others, but that's the first three volumes. I'm a vegetarian so my options are limited but I'll tell you when I've cooked any of the meat-free meals.

no, I never have. But then, I've never heard of it.

But the notion of a cooking anime/manga that has recipes you can actually use intrigues me to no end. I'm about to track it down and delve into it wholeheartedly!

Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

Iron Wok Jan is hard to find in the U.S. I found it by chance. You'd have to search specifically for it to get it.

Never heard of this, but I've been very tempted to try out some of Yakitate!! Japan's bread recipes.

I have read a few volumes of Iron Wok Jan. It was really an interesting concept to begin with. It saddens me that it is out of print today.
