    This isn't a Nomura game.

edit: am I the only one who hopes when the time comes they go the james bond approach instead of rebooting the whole universe. (in the case of a series with one franchise it's doable but rebooting around 8-9 movies when the time comes is going to be a pain.)

    Default Costume problems?

I mean, given the other characters involved (Stark, Banner, Barton, etc) someone in that bunch is bound to ridicule Cap for his red, white and blue pajamas, right?

    And frankly, I welcome it.
Captain America is this incredible iconic figure, but translating that imagery to "real life" is pretty tricky. Making fun of his outfit, in the Cap Movie is what kept it real and helped me, as a fan, make my peace with that look.

It was smart. I bet they'll include something equally clever addressing his choice in clothing vs. his being a capable soldier (so it doesn't matter WHAT he wears )
Couldn't agree more about the point of having to address the uniform. I think the issue of the Captain America outfit is its a COSTUME.

Thor's outfit is not a costume, its his clothes. The reason Thor's outfit looks outrageous is because he's from an alien world. He can't help it.

Iron Man's suit, despite its "hot rod red" coloring, is a functional weapon designed for action, not to look good. (Though it looks pretty damn cool, too.)

    Hulk is.....Hulk.

Hawkeye and Black Widow have outfits that might be a little busy for being government operatives, but they look like functional uniforms.

But Cap's outfit is a costume, straight up. The mask, the big A on his forehead, the stars and stripes, the bright colors....its a costume.

So, yeah...it needs to be addressed as to why SHIELD would take a valuable asset like super soldier Steve Rogers and slap him into a costume. Yes, Rogers wore the same kind of outfit in World War II, but those were very specific circumstances, fighting an enemy (Nazis....oops, I mean HYDRA) where symbolism and propaganda were weapons against the enemy as much as bullets and bombs. In 2012, how would a highly nationalistic symbolic costume serve the purpose of SHIELD? Why would Loki (and his rumored army helping him) give a rats behind what flag Steve Rogers looked like?

So, yes, the costume must be addressed. Here's how.....

    CUE FANBOY RANT!!!!!!

First, if you've read the early Stan Lee Captain America stories, one of the main themes of those early tales was how Steve Rogers found comfort in being Captain America since he had slept for so many years and was in an era not his own. This would be a good angle for the movie to go. Steve Rogers wakes up and though he puts a brave face on how he's feeling, he's really feeling lost and disconnected. And so, Nick Fury, either as a reaction to this or a well thought out plan beforehead, decides to ease him into reality by putting him into a familiar costume. It's sort of like therapy.

Now you say "That's nice, but Nick Fury is Samuel L. Mother****in' Jackson. He would NOT put Steve Rogers in a funny costume. He'd say 'You feelin' down? Tough shit! Would you rather be dead? Are you a soldier or not? Get out there and kick Loki's ass!!'"

That's where this gets a little deep. In the Cap movie, its clear that Howard Stark and the SSA (the agency that would eventually become SHIELD, I reckon) discover the Cosmic Cube. I'm pretty sure they figure out quite quickly that it was not of this Earth, which is a pretty profound discovery, to say the least. Considering how the Cube was used as such a deadly weapon, the Allied governments decide to turn the SSA into the main agency to deal with any problems like the Cube in the future. SHIELD is born.

How busy is SHIELD between the end of WWII and the first Iron Man movie? Things are kind of vague there. Howard Stark helped found SHIELD and I assume he would be one of people who would study the Cosmic Cube. It's also told in Iron Man 2 that Howard Stark was working on the Arc Reactor but was limited by "the technology of my time" (a strange way to put it, eh?)

The point is, I'm going with the idea that SHIELD's job was to deal with threats and phenomenon that are outside the sphere of normal Earthly threats, and do so quickly and QUIETLY. As far as SHIELD is concerned, the less the general public knows, the better.

Unfortunately, with the events going on in ALL the Marvel movies...ESPECIALLY "Thor", keeping a lid on all the true wackiness of the Marvel Universe is now pretty much impossible. You have super advanced armor men fighting each other, gamma monsters ripping up Harlem, and demigods coming down from the sky. Hard to keep all THAT under wraps.

So, what's Nick Fury to do? If he can't contain all this insanity, how is he going to keep the population of the entire planet from going apeshit?

He's going to have to change tactics, and he's going to need the perfect point man to help him do it. Cue Steve Rogers....in a funny looking red, white, and blue costume.

In Nick Fury's view, if you can't hide the truth, then at least try to sugar coat it. Make it a game...a distraction. Dress the information up in a colorful package so the general public can digest the reality a little better.

(Hardly a new concept. Where do you think the phrase "collateral damage" came from.)

THAT'S why Steve Rogers is in costume. Nick Fury knows the events in the Avengers are going to go off the rails, and the public needs to be distracted. Steve Rogers is an honest, upstanding hero the public can get behind, and keep them generally sane for a little but longer.

Or at least until Avengers 2.

    END RANT.

Is this how they deal with the costume in the movie? Hell if I know. I just hope they don't just slap it on him just so Tony Stark can call him a "Capsicle". Steve Rogers deserves more respect.

    That's it. Discuss.

Vanessa Hudgens should play Squirrel Girl in the sequel. She's young and cute enough, the character is more innocent, a nice POV character for the film, she'd look good in an updated outfit, and since Disney owns marvel now, they will likely start suggesting some of their young actors for roles in future films..

We need more new info on this film. Seeing endless posters of the group together just isn't doing it for me.
To be honest, I'm getting more excited for Thor 2 because the nine realms is at least something new and interesting to see!

I know we fanboys want to gobble up every little tidbit of info about this movie, but when it comes to a general viewing audience, I think Marvel is pitching the movie just right....at least I hope.

They are managing the expectations game by showing people what they have PROVEN to like before. You want RDJ as Iron Man? You got it. You want Thor with his hammer? Here you go. You want Scarlett back in her skin tight black jumpsuit? Feast your eyes. Samuel L. MOTHER****IN' Jackson WITH A ROCKET LAUNCHER?! BOOYA!

Now, look at that list. Those are great. Those will bring the a good chunk of moviegoers to the theater. But those things aren't exactly NEW, are they? And that, my dear fanboys, is how it should be. Set the bar to what the audence will expect, and then blow them AWAY once they get to see the movie. THAT is how you make money past your opening weekend.

I'm reminded of trailer for Lord of the Rings...The Fellowship of the Ring, and how, considering how epic the actual movie was, the trailer was kind of sparse. You had Gandalf, you Frodo, you had the ring. Quick shot of a few orcs here and there. Brief scene of Nazgul on horse. It was far from overwhelming...but the movie blew the roof off.

So everyone should relax out there. May will be here soon enough.
