If by lackluster you mean completely awesome, then I agree.

I think this is a "too each his own, let's agree to disagree" situation. I thought Cap was AWESOME considering his epic feats despite being completely outclassed, and yes, him saving a room full of civilians while everyone else was whomping alien was VERY important. We're supposed to care because it's the human element. Cap is the one being responsible for the people which is what this is about. Saving people, stopping the threat. Dude, he no-sold Thor after Thor made Tony his rag doll. He held his own in melee combat without being invulnerable or having the ability to fly like most of the rest. I thought he did great. I admit I would have liked to see more of him kicking ass because what we did see was so good. Top acrobatics, taking out foes who outclass him, etc.

I thought Cap came off real well in this movie:
    - Takes first mission back into Germany (the irony! lol) to fight Loki alone
    - Treats Bruce with respect as both a great scientist and a threat, allowing him in the end to flat out giving Hulk orders (that he obeys with a smile!)
    - After being called useless by Tony, proves himself faster than Tony's Tech by uncovering Hydra Tech involved with Phase 2
    - He fought the entire Helicarrier raid WITHOUT his shield and was still manhandling people (though seems to be a TERRIBLE shot of Storm trooper proportions)
    - Was a One man army holding off the Chitauri on the ground while everyone was having their feats, and only got hit when Thor's big 'ol meathead showed up lol
    - And got in Tony's head (that seems to NEVER happen in this universe) to the point Tony was "avenging" Coulson when he fought Loki, and taking the nuke potentially sacrificing himself

Do I wish he got a nice multiple Shield bounce hit scene? Hell yeah!! but I'm quite satisfied with how much we got. Plus he has a sequel coming , though it sucks Ironman 3's getting A.I.M. instead of Cap.

Not to mention, he was the dude giving the orders. And he got to say other heroes' catch phrases.

i pray that Jeremy Renner has more fun as Clint Barton in the sequel. he barely seemed to be Hawkeye in this one. wasn't his fault. the role called for him to be brain washed for over half the move; followed by angsty-ness. i just think he needs to loosen up. he made Rogers seem carefree.

i think he gave the performance that was needed. Captain America isn't supposed to be flashy. he's not a self-described 'diva' like Stark. he even showed some of that enhanced critical thinking by finding the tesseract arsenal. i don't think anyone should be disappointed that movie-Steve is "Leonardo" to Iron Man's "Raphael."

I was confused for a bit, was trying to figure out how the comparison worked with the actual artists, not the turtles.

I think most actors would find that sort of thing a lot more fun than spouting wisecracks and oneliners for a paycheck... It allows them to show off.
'The marquis. Well, you know, to be honest, he seems a little bit dodgy to me.'
'Mm,' she agreed. 'He's a little bit dodgy in the same way that rats are a little bit covered in fur."

Steve Rogers was wonderful in this film. He was the most moral and decent of all of the Avengers, and this was why at the end he was the leader - as well as he managed to unite the Avengers as a team. They wouldn't have won if they weren't united. He was a complete contrast to the Widow, who I'm sorry to say was the most unlikeable of all the Avengers. She was brave, and a brilliant fighter but she also had less morals than a cockroach. Ironically she only developed a conscience after her little 'duel of words' with Loki and even then described herself as 'compromised'. She made my skin crawl.

Personally, I don't attach a character's level of morality to their entertainment value when it comes to fiction. I'm not saying your like of Cap in the film is the lesser, but for me, I don't find his morals as "cool" as say, Thor lighting up the Empire State.

I actually didn't think there were any stand-outs in terms of characters in the film. I liked them all. But being the Maria Hill fanboy I am, I squealed each and every time she was on the screen.
