This Maria Hill in Avengers is a name. The Maria Hill I know owns Stark and Captain America, because she is a SHIELD commander, and despises freak super heroes. I think I would rather have had the lesbian accountant, Victoria Hand. Not saying the movie Maria Hill wasn't good. She had a great moment in that car chase, that you wouldn't do unless you had on a helmet and a Grande Prix chassis for protection. I'm still not sure how she survived thatspoilers:

I loved Maria Hill in this movie. Thought Colby did a great job. And I love that Whedon made her likeable, people could relate to her. Whereas in the comics she is just a dick a lot of the time for no reason, and totally unlikeable.

They changed everything that defines the Hawkeye character, with the exception of his archery. It couldn't be any less faithful to the source material if it tried.

It isn't his bow skills that attract me to the character. I get that he can hit stuff from far away and in difficult/impossible circumstances. What's interesting is his criminal history, desire for redemption, cocky, flirty attitude and sense of righteous principles.

Don't get me wrong, it was an excellent film. Jeremy Renner is a great actor, too... but not the right actor for Hawkeye, and the character he conveyed was totally different to the one I know and love.
Its an adaptation. I don't think you can have a Hawkeye that is true to the comics in this type of movie. As for who the character was treated, he was fine. Yeah he was under mind control, it happens especially in comics. He made up for it and fought valiantly along with the other heroes. So I disagree with the assertion made earlier he wasn't treated or portrayed well.

Now if your problem is his characterization wasn't truthful to the comics, fine. I've never been big on archers personally and Hawkeye isn't a character I've really paid attention to until the last 6 years or so, but I guess you have a point.

At the same time I recognize its hard for these types of adaptations to be totally truthful to the films. Look at the Blade movies, Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, the X-men. I'm happy as long as the film as a whole is good, and they generally capture what was important about the character.

In this case they changed Hawkeye to a shield agent, which I think worked better for the film universe. They kept his martial arts and weapons mastery and he seemed pretty cocky to me, with his marksmanship being that good.

I guess I understand why you seem to be unhappy, but we knew he was going to be like this for a while. And as I've said a few ties its an adaptation you can't expect it to mirror the comics exactly

my biggest surprise was the Hulk... he was by far the funniest, most entertaining member of them all... and he only had one line! when he kicked Loki's butt it was just hilarious :D

Anyone remember the bit in The Incredibles where the costumer is banging on about the perils of wearing a cape?
Perhaps someone should have told Loki..........

Seen it on Thursday (uk release)- and it is awesome!!

Totally lives up to the hype.

Action scenes are epic, character scenes are touching (and heart-wrenching in one) and the team scenes are hilarious!! Whedon doesn't miss!

    Haha who cares about Hawkeye.

The Avengers is my fav ever superhero flick, more enjoyable than TDK, but it's not perfect.
After some consideration I have managed to pinpoint the ares I would like to see fixed in the sequel.
None of these issues detract from my enjoyment of the film, but they are somewhat significant.

    SPOILERS....

-Chitauri- we basically know nothing about them and learn little/nothing of their motivation for teaming up with Loki.

-Agent Coulson's apparent death- done to try to lend gravitas to the situation, but I didn't care at all that he was killed.

-The scene were Cap orders some cops and they say 'why should we take orders from you?'. Isn't Cap supposed to be a national treasure? The hero of WWII and all that? So the cops would have a) known who he is and loved him like everyone else and b) known he was part of The Avengers and what they were doing.

-Caps covered ears. Don't look right, gotta go. Give us exposed ears in the phase two films please.

-In the final battle with the invaders, at no point did it ever feel like The Avengers were in danger. they just made mincemeat of Chitauri.

-There is a panning shot over the final battle where we see each Avenger one at a time kicking ass, and you can easily tell that Cap doing a hook kick is not Chris Evans but instead CGI.

    Nothing good in my showing.
    No Spidey or BatBat.
MIB3 was the best of the bunch.

    I went to see it in Scotland, so I'll assume u meant UK;

There was some random Olympic themed movie about a female relay team (dunno who that was meant to appeal to), American Pie Reunion, Jeff who lives at home. Think that was it- it was slate showing, so not many trailers atall!

Or maybe I was just so excited that it all just became a blur before "Avengers Assemble" (as it's known over here) started!

Dammit... Might have to find an excuse to see it again in a few weeks then in hopes of getting those. Still looking forward to seeing it this afternoon though!

Same here. I had MIB3, The Dictator, Safe (the Jason Statham film), Prometheus (the first trailer, which I actually disliked, rather than the great second one) and I'm sure there was one more but I can't remember what it was.

I disagree. I thought she was completely forgettable and might as well have not been a named character.
