I seem to remember Wizard putting together a top 50 or top 100 Graphic Novels list at some point in the past, does anyone know where that list may exist, or have a copy of the list they could e-mail or post here?

Here's a link to a run down of the Wizard choices. I seem to remember this list published on FCBD last year. Enjoy.
This was a ridiculous and horrible list. If you're looking for a guide to what you ought to read, then don't use this list-- it will give you a very distorted and limited perspective on comics.
Eddie Campbell's graphic novel Alec: How to Be an Artist includes a list of what Eddie considers to be the essential graphic novels. That list is a couple years out of date but I agree with most of his choices. Alternately, Tom Spurgeon's list of The Comics Reporter's Top 100 Comics Works of the Century might be even better, though Spurgeon's list contains some comics that haven't been translated into English.

The Comics Journal also put out a top one-hundred English comic list.

I take a few liberties with it (MAD placement and having Lee/Kirby FF so low) but it's one of the better lists I've seen.
Wizard has Ultimate Spider-man: Volume 1 at FIFTH? Well, so much for that.
Thanks for the responses... I started looking at the Wizard list.. and I'll definately check out the other lists, year Ultimate SpiderMan at #5 is suspect...

I'm shocked. There's plenty of non Super Hero stuff on that wizard list.
Of course I hope this list wasn't in wizard exactly as its presented here.
1) They only give one name for the credit, I think usually the writer. (This is only bad for the projects that involved writer/artist teams)
2) They got the Writer wrong for at least 2 entries (Infintiy Gauntlet by Jim Shooter & Justice League: A New Begging by Mark Waid)
US-M is a perfectly okay example of a superhero comic, especially if one doesn't know or care much about the "default" Marvel U continuity of the character, but the idea that it makes 5th on anyone's list is just hilarious. That's so ridiculous as to not even qualify as truly pathetic - just hilarious.

I've read MAUS and have never understodd the praise it gets. It just wasn't that good.

Maus is probably the one comic I would unequivocally recommend to anyone. There are lots of great books, but I'd wouldn't automatically recommend Sandman, Watchmen, or From Hell unless I knew it was up their alley.
But Maus is just that good.
Well, in all fairness, I can see how certain folk might not get much out of MAUS.
Nazis and other anti-Semitic sorts, for example. They'd probably not like MAUS.
And people that are severely mouse-phobic, I suppose they might not enjoy it.
And I'm guessing blind folk wouldn't get much out of it. I dunno of there's a braille version of MAUS out there, but even if so, I'm thinking a lot would be lost.
Anyone else, though, it's one of the of those automatic recommendations.

This is like compiling best albums of all time. It's all subjective. I'd argue that Akira is a tedious piece of crap myself. To each their own!
BTW Death the High Cost of Living deserves to be ranked way higher than DKR. Now, that's a good book to sell to "non comic fans" that doesn't get promoted.
