There's nothing wrong with this issue. If it had been somewhere in the 30s or 40s of the series, it would be nice to see how people other than the main cast are dealing with this new testerone free world. It would probably be even better as a special "Lost Stories of Y" or something like that (in fact, that could be great fun). However, as an issue in the 50s, where we're cleary at the climax of the series, this is obviously just stalling. This issue should have been titled, "Momentum Killer."

It was a very good issue, building up to the final, and showing how the world is going on without men. Yeah, i missed Yorick and everybody, but it was cool anyway.

I liked it simply because it was Y, but it really didn't bring anything to the story for me. I don't care about some supermodel who gets to shovel corpses all day, and the only real purpose of the story that i saw was for vaughan to prove two things:
    1. There's hope that the men will come back
    2. Society's still screwed up after all this time

Both of which are things that I already knew, and I didn't get my Yorick fix :/

But hey, its another issue of Y, who am i to complain.

an okay issue, but i felt we could've focused on Yorick and 355 instead. this issue really makes me feel that Y is better read in trades.

Unfortunately we're too near the end to switch now!

This was probably just there to let the next issue skip straight to Yorick being in France. Besides, the funeral of Yorick's mother is definitely very important.

This was one of the few issues I felt Brian Vaughn owed me $2.99.

Raise your hand if you were really just dying to know what happened to the supermodel skank who tried to capture Yorick in the first story arc years ago.

A complete and utter waste of time and money. And I'll miss the time more than the money.

i thought it was pretty damn good, and the reveal that other mammals--ie the rats- were having children was a pretty big reveal

But the issue wasn't really about her. It was about the funeral of Yorick's mother, the fate of former Amazons, how the women outside of Yorick's sphere were coping in the aftermath of the gendercide, and how the world may not be doomed after all. Waverly was a familiar face, but she wasn't the focal point.

It is absolutely about all of those things, but she is definitely the focal point.

Da fug? I loved this issue, as it brought the focus back "home" (to the States, as I'd been waiting to see what happened to Yorick's mother for months), and provided the key statement that there are hope for the future of humanity in the Y-verse, something that hadn't been established before.

I thought that the statement on the last page was very poignant as well.

Not every issue of the series has to focus entirely on the main character, because that's not what the book is all about. Personally, I find these kinds of tales more interesting than just focusing on what Yorick and the gang are up to each and every month.

I thought #53 served as a good footnote to the series -again just reminding us of how the world has changed. This issue focuses on 2 points of change, mainly economics and relationships as seen from the point of view of the former supermodel. The skills (or beauty in her case) that got women far in the old world don't necessarily matter as much in the new one.

I like the one-shots in between story arcs because they give us little nuances about the new world and the characters that really add to the total picture of Y.

I was initially bewildered by this issue, since I hadn't acquired Y #52 yet, and because the model's new sidekick looked sort of like Yorick. The story was okay, but seemed like an awkward way to follow up on the death of Yorick's mom. I would have rather read more about Yorick and his friends, or one of the Beths, or even the Israelis.

Then you must have been thrilled by the last two issues.

This reminds me of the episodes of "M.A.S.H." when instead of the focus being on Hawkeye the "star" of the show would be Klinger or Radar or Colonel Potter. I always hated those stories.

Supporting characters are there for a reason: to support the main character, not take over the whole damn comic.

Fool me once, shame on you Vaughn. Fool me twice, I'm just a fool.

    Won't get fooled again.

Huh? I thought that M*A*S*H was working with an ensemble cast, not a star and supporting cast setup. Same with the original movie. I admit that I was a big fan of Hawkeye, at first, but eventually I got tired of his annoying, bantering tone of voice as he shamelessly stole from the Marx Brothers.

Unlike M*A*S*H, Y the Last Man clearly has a star and a main supporting cast. The thing with these recent issues is that we're not even seeing stories that focus on the supporting cast in the last two issues, we're seeing stories that focus on minor characters from the first year or two of this comic, which is odd. I guess that Vaughn is giving us a whirlwind tour of previous characters and locations as a way of showing how the world has adapted over time, before returning to Yorick and his companions and enemies for a climactic confrontation and resolution. I hope that Yorick doesn't get killed, but it seems possible now.
