Denny Doherty of The Mamas and The Papas died today at 66.
Personally, I think that group had the best harmonies of any group ever...yes, even better than the Beach Boys, but that's just my personal opinion.

This is horrible news. We've only got one "Mama" left now.
Cass Elliot's voice always gets the attention, and it deserves attention; but the strength and power of Denny's voice always get unfairly overlooked. This is a big loss.

My dad went to school with him. They hung out for a couple years.
So, there's this thing NEW! 5/3/13
I love that group. Gorgeous vocals, and it's so sad that Denny has passed.
Everytime one of the greats from the rock 'n' roll era pass away, it's like a piece of my heart dies. We just had James Brown pass, and now Denny.
The man had a great smooth voice and a nice delivery style.
A few years ago I noticed that he hosting a kids show named "Theodore Tugboat" and he really had just the perfect speaking voice for a show for small kids (in the good way). It was still strong friendly and very clear.
I'm sorry to hear he went so young too.
66 is only 20 years away for me, so trust me when I say that it isn't that old.
I know what you mean, Rick, I used to think 50 was old, then I turned 30. Now that I'm just a bit past 40, 70 looks a lot younger!
