Just simply wondering why people love Colossus so much. I find him to be a rather bland character (personality-wise I mean) and quite frankly I feel in Ult. X-Men he is more of a character and has more personality than his 616 version.

He makes a rather nice coatrack.
"What can change the nature of a man?"
He doesn't speak much in Astonishing but lord was #19's line/joke amazing.
Yeah, that I'll admit had me laughing.
Whedon writes him quite well, rather than dense he seems quite monosyllabic and very reminiscent of the Buffy character Oz...its all a change for the good.
I dunno, why do people love Wolverine and Cyclops and Gambit so much? C'mon, you know that it's different strokes for different folks. I mean I don't like Emma Frost personally, but I'm not going to question those who do. I'm sure there are things that people see and admire in her that I unfortunately can't. I think Wolverine is bland, but there are millions of fans out there who are gonna disagree with me. And, more power to 'em; they don't have to justify to me why he's so great. Just differing opinions.
I actually think that Ultimate Colossus is lacking personality compared to 616. What hobbies and personal interests does Ultimate Colossus have?? The 616 version loves to paint, farm and garden, and has a strong family ethic. So far all we know about Ultimate Colossus is that he's gay. So? I'd rather know what it is that Ultimate Northstar sees in Peter, that makes him such an attractive person (aside from his good looks). Hopefully Jean-Paul is dating him for more than being a pretty face. Ultimate Colossus really needs more character development.
Heh, Emma and Scott rocks all. But I think the reason I said I Ult. Colossus has more of a personality is because I see more of it since he interacts more with the other cast. Other than that, yeah, there isn't much, but in the 616, I see Colossus pretty much not having much to say or do. Other than Kitty, I haven't seen him interact with anyone else ever since his resurrection.
I think 616 Colossus has a lot of interesting features. He is very strong and sometimes not all that bright, but possesses a lot of sensitivity and artistry. Ultimate Colossus being gay turns him into a bit of a stereotype.
Unlike most X-Men, Colossus has a real family history and loyalty. Plus, he suffered a lot from losing his family (X-writers in the 90s seemed to make him their punching bag), so I feel sympathy for him. And he has a great romance with Kitty and he's hot. What's not to like?
Colossus does need to interact with more characters. He has a lot of history with the X-Men and seeing him with some old friends (and new ones) would make him more appealing.
Colossus Love involves a ton of wd-40
Anyways, i like Colossus, but feel most if not all writers dont do much with him. With marvel timeslide, colossus' is a communist by choice. Thats and interesting angle that could be played on. Just imagine him and kitty walking outside on a cold day and him lending her his communist cap. Adorable.
Colossus sort of came off as the "little brother" of his team to me, even after Kitty joined and after all these years, he doesn't seem to have matured that much.
I have trouble connecting the dots with him. He seems made of two extremes - the raging giant and the gentle artist and those two don't really seem to overlap. So I have yet to really "get" Colossus as a three-dimensional character.
I don't love Colossus, not any more. Years ago, back before he died, he was cool....now though...

I used to like Colossus quite a bit, before he 'died'. After he came back, he became a kindo zombie.
Now, I really do not care for this character at all.
I partially agree with you. But they are very different characters - which in many waus is what the Ultimate Universe should be.
Don't get me wrong - I like they guy a lot. And yes, the 90s really did screw with him. There was a period on excalibur, with him get closer to Meggan, in which he began to come a bit more back into his own, but even as an Accolyte Colossus had become a bit of a wallpaper character. I feel that Poitr has always had far more potential than that. But I don't think going back to the Kitty/Poitr relationship should have been the way forward. It was done. Both parties had grown up and moved on. Going back to it in this way kind of regresses both characters to a degree. I'd rather see Colossus on his own. Making his own mark.
I'm always amazed that of the Whole All-New All-Different lineup he's the only one NOT to have led his own team.
I'd agree there, too. The problem is that while he's on Astonishing he wont really have a chance to do with that. The title is so self-enclosed there's just not the opportunity.
Very, very wrong! :D
