You might wanna check out the Superman/Batman TPBs written by Jeph Loeb.
Vol 1: Public Enemies w art by Ed McGuinness
Vol 2: Supergirl w art by Michael Turner (One of my favorite artists)
Vol 3: Absolute Power w art by Carlos Pacheco
Vol 4: Vengeance w art by Ed McGuinness

I'd also suggest the Superman: For Tomorrow TPBs written by Brian Azarello with art by Jim Lee (one of the best)

I have mainly been in Marvel since i started reading but I picked up the first 7 issues of Supergirl and Infinite Crisis and so far really like it. I was also thinking about picking up a Superman book. I was thinking about Superman because I really like the art. From what I have seen I don't realy like the art in Action or All-Star. Where does Superman fit in after Infinite Crisis. Really I am just looking for a number of where to start. Thanks so much for your help!

Guess ill sort of add my question to this thread, i didnt see a general ask superman question thread in my 2 seconds of looking before clicking this one.

Im going to, and am, i suppose, getting into superman. A Smallville convert. And the thought of Chloe being in the book is appealing. Ive subsribed to superman, and bought all the busiek stuff

I just now, want to check the read order.

Here's what i got or will have, in a day or 2.

Superman up, up and away tpb

    Superman 654-658
    action comics 841-843

I also procured some out of continuity type stuff, Superman Identity (?), Kingdom Come, and i believe something else, although it escapes me at the moment. So they are more of the, read whenever type stuff

ANd of course rebought the Death of Superman book, although that wasnt so much for the superman stuff, but for the JLA ass kicking which i loved as a kid, and do now. Booster Gold + Car Door= Hilarity.

You might want to start getting the Up, Up And Away TPB, which is the "one year later" storyline, written by Kurt Busiek and Geoff Johns.

I'd recommend picking up Action Comics and Superman, too. But since you don't like the art in Action, then get Superman.

You might want to get up-to-date by getting the current issues of Action Comics, starting with #844.

Agreed, except that I didn't like the goddamn return of Supergirl arc.

I'd also suggest Birthright by Mark Waid with art by Leinil Francis Yu.

Ooops. I forgot to address that question.

I also forgot about Chloe (I love Allison Mack, BTW). My guess is that she will be introduced eventually, but it won't take long for her to make her first appearance in any of the Super-books.

BTW, did I mention that besides Geoff Johns, Richard freakin' Donner (yep, THAT Richard Donner) is the co-writer of Action Comics?

I know you don't like the art in Action, but the story is REALLY cool. Give it a shot, you might want to stick around after that.

Do you need to read Action Comics and Superman to get the full story because I am looking at some of the trades and most of them have a few from each series. Also I just picked up Superman 200-205 on ebay. I am trying to get the numbering correct and from what i can tell it goes up to Superman 226 and then to 650?

Excellent. I wasnt sure if i was going to have to bounce between Action comics and superman, or if they were their own separate entities.

You know what would make a story. How did superman get into shape? Sure, as times change so do the perceptions of body image. The pudgy superman of the 30's looks like someone with a thyroid problem. So, how did he get from fat to fab? Its not like he can really lift weights.
