In Superman, Supes is just about to take on Arion to finish up the Camelot Falls arc.

In Action Comics, Pa Kent was kidnapped by Bizarro, so Superman flew to Bizarro World to rescue him.

One sentence summary for ya. If you're looking for more in depth, I'll be more than happy to put up spoilers

Which current Superman titles do any of you suggest? I've never read Superman, but i've always been curious about his enemies: Lex, Bizarro, etc.

I highly recommend Superman: Birthright, which is the latest origin story. It's not canon, but it's still a really great book IMO. Lois is well-written too which is nice.

The Superman/Batman trades by Loeb are GREAT for getting to know both Superman and Batman.

Up, Up, and Away is Supes' OYL. You'll probably want to read that.

If you want lots of pretty Supes pics by Jim Lee, pick up For Tomorrow. It is looove.

As for current titles, the only thing I'm following right now is All-Star Superman, which is awesome. :D

I could recommend more but I think that's enough for right now...

Considering Vol 1 was Issues 1-6, and Issue #10 was just scheduled to be released 2/3 weeks ago(and has been delayed to Feb 6.), and considering it's bi monthly shipping schedule(even though their is not a solicitation for Issue #11 in January, Febuary, or March's Solict's)

Your looking to at least a couple of months after #12 is released.

So guesstimated time would be from anywhere to about 9 months or more away.

"The Supergirl from Krypton" in SUPERMAN/BATMAN was good, but Kara has lacked direction in her own title. Only Mark Waid in LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES and BRAVE AND THE BOLD has really written her well, IMO. I really wish they'd put him on her title. He's a great writer whose Superman knowledge is legendary.

I just wanted to know what's been doing better recently Action comics or superman, and what's the difference between the two titles.

Suggestion: I just read Legion of Super-Heroes in the 31st Century #13, and it strikes me that it'd work perfectly as anyone's first Superman comic. Highly recommended. (And a Chloe Sullivan reference--is that the first one in DC comics?)
matthewe.com: updates on the superhero novel-in-progress Ded & Sac, the Superhero of the Day, and more.

anyway, with 600+ issues, where's a good place to jump into superman comics, and how important is backstory?

Well, in the case of backstory, it depends on how much you want to know about it. The essential stuff (his origin) you already know.

As for jump-in points, there's the "Up, Up And Away" TPB, or if you want something more recent, pick up Superman #675 and this week's issue of Action Comics.

IT would ahve supes land on earth as usual per the origin, except Krypton would ahve been destroyed by Mongul (Frieza analogue) as he wanted to get rid of the kryptonians before they realized the true power they withheld. Jor-el rockets his son away from Krypton as the attack is beign commenced. Green Lantern's being held off by Mongul's massive powership (and most of them being rookies). Superman lands on earth, and is found by a old elderly couple (the kents). They never tell him why he's so strong, and as they live in sort of seclusion he just figures it's normal for kids to be like him.that is until he ventures out into the world with Lois and Jimmy Olsen, two adventurers searching for great treasure (haven't decided waht the dragonballs will be). Along the way they encounter other strangers, such as three kids who have abnormal powers like him and tell him that he will have a great showdown one day witht he evil Demon King J'onn J'onzz and be the one to defeat him. more stuff involving Karsta wor ul as master roshi analogue, and then the ZOD saga

Dev-em, aka Kal-el's big brother arrives on earth, being one of the four kryptonians to survive it's destruction (being offworld at the time) and he comes to earth to find in disgust Kal-el is acting "too human" for his own damn good. By this time Clark has married lois and had a half kryptonian son (Conner or Chris if you will) and Dev-em takes his osn from him, and gives Kal an ultimatum. Join him and kila lll the humans on earth, or fight him and die. Kal teams up wtih the reborn Demon King J'onn J'onnzz and fights Dev-em, but dies in the process. After he dies Dev-em tells J'onn and Conner/Chris of two more Kryptonians, TEN TIMES stronger than him.......Zod and Kara-zor el! :O

Not bad at all, Froggy. I like the bit of Jimmy and Lois being adventurers. Kal dies? I suppose he is resurrected later?
