    There are many pre-DCnU Supermen.

    Most importantly:
    Pre-Crisis - 1986 + earlier
    Post-Crisis - 1989-2011

But within Post Crisis they revamped the origin twice - first in Birthright, and then in Secret Origin (which I haven't read).

In Pre-Crisis and then from Birthright onwards, but in the 1987 origin Lex grew up in Metropolis.

Pre-Crisis he had powers from a baby. The 1987 origin had him get powers as a teenager. I can't honestly remember which it is for Birthright and don't know the deal with Secret Origin. (Secret Identity is an out of continuity story about a different character - but I'm guessing you mistyped Secret Origin)

No. She did the right thing.

Oh I'm sorry...I despise Pre Crisis. I was many talking post crisis to the new reboot. And I was talking about Secret Origin. Im about to read Birthright again because I just cannot remember it. Secret Origin has the whole meeting the Legionaires at teenage age story.

Also the last coupe of Superman issues leading to the revamp was some of the best stories ever written for the Man of Steel from New Krypton to War of the Superman. How did Chris age so much by the way. I liked him. Anyway thnaks.

Where was Brainaic being held when Supes beat him around the time that Kandor and Metropolis was saved from the bottles? Also did i miss something....New KRYTON STARTED RIGHT AFTER THAT STORY WITH Pa dying right? With the fortess erecting an such?

They should ave unplugged Brainiac or something and i never knew he was a sentient being.

Has anything other than the first arc of Superman: Confidential been collected in trade?

Not to my knowledge. No big loss either. Apparently nothing that came after matched Cooke's Kryptonite.
Your name is Kal-El. You are the only survivor of the planet Krypton. Even though you've been raised as a human being, you are not one of them

Thanks for that. I read half of the mermaid storyline and it didn't leave much of an impact but thought it may be worth finding out how it ended.

Does anybody know the origin of calling Superman the "man of steel?" Do we know the first issue that he was called the man of steel in? I was talking to someone about it the other day and we weren't sure if it happened with the John Byrne series in the 80s or if there is an earlier mention of it.

The two-part Story in CONFIDENTIAL revealing Superman's first encounter with the New Gods and Darkseid was pretty good. I think the only time it was shown Post-Crisis I think. The rest? Bleghh. KRYPTONITE and the NEW GODS stories were the only highlights of that book.

This is covered during the New Krypton stuff, but specifically, you can follow what happens with Brainiac next in Superboy Boy of Steel (which collects some Adventure Comics issues). Lex who is held with General Lane tries to study Brainiac, and it ends with Brainiac coming alive and Lex escaping with him.

Check out this Batman thread: http://forums.comicbookresources.com...-Recent-Events

Any Superman fans want to make something on par with that for this thread?

Nope: Byrne touched on it in his New Gods run.

    A great plan by Lane!
    Why was Led in jail?
Where he get that kryptonian god he used for the red sun? And what is a time pool.

I stand corrected! Although I never read Byrne's NEW GODS. Was it any good? Also, was there a great difference between Byrne's version and the CONFIDENTIAL one? The later was loosly based on the original Kirby version of events, and I would imagine Byrne's version was similar in that regard.

I liked the Byrne Superman issue (I didn't read much else of the Byrne New Gods run). It had a cover that was a throwback to the Man of Steel mini, and the story expanded on the original Kirby Forever People story (showing Superman getting to go to Supertown for the first time, right before Orion leaves for Earth to start his series).
